…and now for something completely different! 1679 - 2022

These arrogant fucking politicians, warlords and religious don't give a fuck about us, they only pretend! Go to hell! They don't know that they are as superfluous as telephone disinfectors and hairdressers! It is to cry for! - RYP

We have a first entry each day that is a picture or a video, and only in that entry you can place your music links and requests (NO ALBUMS RELEASED IN 2020 AND AFTER, AND A DAILY LIMIT OF 3 ALBUMS)! Here you can say what you like, unless it's offensive, racist or discriminatory! Please keep your language polite and respectful. All the rest official posts will only allow comments related to the official posts and such. That way it will keep things much more organized and tidy. Enjoy! RYP and Gyro1966

Iain Matthews

Part 9 of 24

Plainsong was originally a British country rock/folk rock band, formed in early 1972 by Ian (later Iain) Matthews, formerly of Fairport Convention and Matthews Southern Comfort, and Andy Roberts, previously of Everyone and The Liverpool Scene. The band's line-up consisted of Matthews, Roberts, piano and bass player Dave Richards (David Latham Richards, born London, 7 May 1947, died 16 January 2019) and American guitarist and bass player Bob Ronga (Robert Ronga, born 23 December 1946, New York, died 12 November 2012). Plainsong released just one album during their original existence, In Search Of Amelia Earhart, before splitting up in December 1972.

Since the early 1990s, Matthews and Roberts have intermittently performed and recorded together as Plainsong, either as a duo or with other musicians. Their most recent performances were as a trio with Mark Griffiths in 2017 at the Cropredy Festival, and as a duo during a short UK tour in August 2021. They also released a live album under their own names in 2021, recorded at the Bonington Theatre in Nottingham in 1991.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plainsong_(band)

I must admit that I am as much an Andy Roberts fan as an Iain Mathews fan, so, needless to say, I love Plainsong. I first (knowingly) heard Andy on the first two Grimms albums, which I bought sometime in the mid seventies.

@Aaro Vincent

Thanks for the two new "tapes" (remember when we actually made tapes and you had to sit and listen through the whole thing because there was no other way to do it?).

A few more albums I'd love to get, if anyone can find them. flac, or high quality mp3 preferred.

The Daisy Chain - Straight Or Lame (1967) (all-female psych band)

2 of the members disappeared from the scene after that, but the other two recorded two more LPs as Birtha (also an all-female rock band).

Birtha - Birtha (1972)
Birtha - Can't Stop The Madness (1973)

While the Daisy Chain album has had CD & viyl reissues, the Birtha albums will be more difficult, since, as far as I'm aware, they've not been reissued since they were first released.

Thanks - CJ

I'm born in the seventies, from the mid 80's to mid 90's I probably made hundreds of "real" mixtapes, it's definitely had it's charm, but when the ability to burn your own cd's it 's was some kind of revolution in my head. When I download a mix from TZ (or elsewhere), I must admit I add it in my winamp player, and listen to it from start to finish:-) A genuine mix deserves that kind of listen I believe. I hope more folks on TZ will made and share mixes in the future:-)

@Aaron Vincent:

I completely agree with you about mixtapes and mix-cd's. Making a really good mixtape was almost an artform in itself. I used to love it. And at least one of my old friends still keeps mixtapes that I made back in the 80's or early 90's, and claims he plays them in his car to this day.

Many, many thanks to EasilyConfused for posting the live Joan Osborne album. Almost missed it but I'm glad I dug back a couple days. Truly appreciated!!

Take care,
J.

zigzagwanderer,
yes, I miss these two albums! Please send me the links via comments. I'll post them in line with the others on the main page! I will not publish your comment. Thanks in advance!

I totally agree with you about mixtapes, an artform in itself. Sounds great about your friend who still making them in it's old way, salute to him! I remember about 20 years ago, when a site called "art of the mix" was popular, people put out their mixtapes/mix-cd's (only setlist), and in hte comment field people salute them and aske for trading with each other worldwide in physical form. I was a member there for some years, remember how we burn our mix-cd's and post them all over the world. It was like christmas day when you receive those packages from the memembers. I kind of miss those days. :-D
