American psychedelic rock band formed in Austin, TX in 1966.

They released one album before breaking up soon after the album's release in 1968.
The 1967 release of the album was withheld by International Artists, until after the 13th Floor Elevators' album Easter Everywhere was released, even though Power Plant was recorded earlier. As a result, the Power Plant's reviews tagged it as a copycat record, unworthy of positive consideration. - discogs

"More Delicious Spaghetti Western" 2000

Sequels to popular instrumental compilations often fall prey to the law of diminishing returns, but More Delicious Spaghetti Western proves an exception to that rule…

...In fact, this compilation of cues from spaghetti western soundtracks manages to improve on its predecessor because it offers a wider selection of composers and film scores. Although its track listing ignores crucial Sergio Leone classics like A Fistful of Dollars and Once Upon a Time in the West, More Delicious Spaghetti Western still manages to present a pretty comprehensive selection of important composers who contributed to this genre. Most importantly, this album includes four tracks by Ennio Morricone, the king of the spaghetti western film score. The best of these tracks are "Il Mio Nome E Nessuno," a flute-led instrumental that blends gentle acoustic guitar accompaniment with a sprightly, playful choral arrangement, and "Vamos A Matar Companeros," a rousing and fast-paced track that is built around Spanish choral vocals but throws in a humorous, head-spinning instrumental break that trots out every spaghetti western soundtrack device in the book (reverbed electric guitar, wailing voices, martial horn blasts, etc.). More Delicious Spaghetti Western also illustrates how musically diverse this style of music could be within its stylistic constraints: "Una Ragione Per Vivere E Una Per Morire" applies militaristic elements that would be at home in a war movie (drum corps-like percussion, reveille-style horns) into its western style, and "Sartana" grafts spaghetti western guitar work onto an organ-driven melody that owes more to 1960s lounge pop than it does to traditional western movie music. Zed "Silencer" 2000

New Zealand's top rock band of 2000, Zed was formed in 1996 while Nathan King, Ben Campbell, and Adrian Palmer were still attending Christchurch's Cashmere High School. Influenced by their parents' old Beatles records and adding their generation's Crowded House, Supergrass, Blur, and Radiohead, they started getting together in each other's bedrooms to practice the kind of hook-laden pop music they were listening to...

…Campbell's father liked what he heard and decided to send demos to a family friend, kiwi rock music icon, Ray Columbus. Also impressed by those bedroom sessions, Columbus signed on as Zed's manager, encouraged them to start writing original material, and secured them a publishing deal. The Blues Magoos "Kaleidescopic Compendium" The Best Of The Blues Magoos 1992

 The Blues Magoos were one of the most underrated U.S. bands of the late '60s, known almost exclusively for their one irresistible hit "(We Ain't Got) Nothing Yet," which charted at number five in July 1967. Kaleidescopic Compendium: The Best of the Blues Magoos confirms the group's depth. The disc compiles a generous 23 tracks from their first three albums and a brace of single sides. The group's psychedelia holds up better than most from the period. Andy Sandoval's four-page history of the group is concise, complete, and entertaining. - by Roch Parisien

Back in the late 60s I just about wore out my copy of "Psychadelic Lollypop" playing it over and over, and playing along with it. I drove my parents crazy playing both drums *and* guitar along with great tunes like "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet", "Love Seems Doomed" and thier version of "Tobacco Road"- in fact, I learned "Tobacco Road" from that album.
This album contains all those songs from that album and more- and at the price it's a steal. The Blues Magoos were a wonderfully raw and powerful group who could craft some great, catchy tunes- yet still played with a tremendous amount of raw punk energy. And any group that can brag (as they did on the liner notes of "Lollypop") that they were thrown out of their gig at the Whiskey for "playing too loud"- well, that just cements their proto-punk credentials in my book. If you haven't heard them and you're a fan of grungy 60s pop, get this album. - By Michael J. Edelman

"My Delicious Spaghetti Western" 1998

In the 1960s, Italian filmmakers reinvented the Western genre by adding a gritty starkness and the occasional bit of surrealism that resulted in the birth of a new genre dubbed the spaghetti Western. One of the most distinctive features of these movies were their soundtracks, which added rock & roll elements like bass and heavily-reverbed electric guitar to their orchestral sweep to create a sound that was grand and punchy all at once…

...This unique sound received a fitting and well-deserved tribute in 1998 with the release of the compilation My Delicious Spaghetti Western. It contains a generous selection of tracks that illustrate the stylistic hallmarks and hard-hitting effectiveness of the spaghetti Western genre. Good examples include "Gli Fumavano Le Colt...Lo Chiamavano Camposanto (Pt. 1)," which allows a whistler to take the lead over a restless backdrop of staccato strings and Gregorian-chanting voices, and "Fargo's Gang," which plays off a mournful, flamenco-style acoustic guitar lead against an atmospheric orchestral backdrop with a beat. However, My Delicious Spaghetti Western runs into some problems with its selection of tracks. The first problem is that its selection is drawn entirely from a handful of little-known obscurities like Buckaroo and Il Segno Del Coyote instead of internationally-known films like Django and The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The second and biggest problem with My Delicious Spaghetti Western is that it contains no tracks by the undisputed king of the spaghetti Western soundtrack, Ennio Morricone. Despite these selection problems, My Delicious Spaghetti Western works as a vivid portrait of the spaghetti Western's musical style and benefits from a track-to-track consistency that makes it easy to listen to all the way through. While it isn't a comprehensive compilation of the style of music, My Delicious Spaghetti Western is both a solid introduction to this kind of music and a guaranteed hit for spaghetti Western enthusiasts. Hamish Kilgour "Finklestein" 2018

...The band split in 1982, but began a long history of going on hiatus and re-forming to release an album or go on tour. When not behind the drums for the Clean, Kilgour stayed active in various other bands and projects. Along with David, Hamish worked in wistful, jangly tones similar to the Clean with the Great Unwashed in the early '80s, and later in the decade played with Bailter Space…

…Blip In 1990, Hamish formed Monsterland, playing guitar alongside guitarist/bassist Lisa Siegel. The band formed in Auckland, New Zealand, but when they moved to New York City in 1991 they quickly changed their name to the Mad Scene upon discovering there was already a New York band using the Monsterland name. The group released a handful of EPs and three albums during the '90s. Tiny Ruins & Hamish Kilgour "Hurtling Though" 2015

...The Mad Scene released another album in 2012, Blip, and Kilgour began working on his first solo album. With the help of Gary Olson and indie pop utility player Miggy Littleton, All of It and Nothing was finished and released by Ba Da Bing in 2014. That same year he also issued a solo single, "Crazy Radiance"/"Window Washers."..

…Hurtling Through Despite finally emerging as a solo performer, Kilgour's collaborative spirit was still strong, and in 2015 he teamed with Tiny Ruins to record the Hurtling Through EP, and in 2017 he played drums with the indie rock band Roya on their self-titled album. That same year he spent time working with Olson on an album based on a bedtime story he told his son. Hamish Kilgour "All of it and Nothing" 2014

As the drummer for New Zealand trio the Clean, Hamish Kilgour was one-third of a legendary band that helped invent indie rock and pop in the early '80s. That band continued to release albums and tour over the years, and Kilgour meanwhile played drums for other bands, formed the Mad Scene in the early '90s, and finally released his first solo album, All of It and Nothing, in 2014…

...That record and its follow-up, 2018's Finklestein, featured Kilgour teaming with Ladybug Transistor's Gary Olson to craft low-key, lo-fi indie pop with a touch of psych around the edges that wasn't too far from the sound of the Clean.
Hailing from Dunedin, New Zealand, drummer/vocalist/songwriter Hamish Kilgour formed the Clean in 1978 with his guitarist brother David and guitarist Peter Gutteridge, who was soon replaced by bassist Robert Scott (later of the Bats). Angie Pepper "Res Ipsa Loquitor" 2003

Career Records has scheduled a September release date for a new album of alternately soulful, rocking and psychedelic songs from Australian born trans-Pacific songstress Angie Pepper...

..."Res Ipsa Loquitor" is the first full fledged Angie Pepper album to hit the racks and is on the new label Career Records, the imprint co-owned by Donovan's Brain leader Ron Sanchez and Deniz Tek. "Res Ipsa Loquitor" compiles tracks recorded by Angie in American sessions with Australian and US based members of the Deniz Tek Group, producer and David Weyer.
Four tracks were the upshot of a collaboration with Montana psychedelic collective Donovan's Brain.
There is also a cover of Sydney's infamous Lipstick Killers' "Hindu Gods of Love". The Deniz Tek produced original 45 rpm appeared on the Bomp/Voxx label in 1980.
The resulting album is a unique cross between "Pet Sounds"-era Beach Boys,60's girl pop like the Crystals and the Shangri-Las, and the contemporary pop-rock sounds of Garbage. The album sounds remarkably coherent, despite the variety of players. Most songs were penned by Deniz Tek and Angie Pepper. Highlights include the Brian Wilson-like "Cool Sea", the poppy "Baby Don't Go", the obscure Link Way cover, "Trying to Find Your Love" and a Diane Renay tune, "Kiss Me Sailor".
Angie Pepper first came to notice as vocalist for the post punk independent Sydney band the Passengers, who produced one single ("Face With No Name") on the Phantom label. She married Radio Birdman co-founder Deniz Tek, and they played together in the short lived Angie Pepper Band whose ranks included a future Hoodoo Guru in Clyde Bramley and a former Saints drummer in Ivor Hay.
Re-mixed demos recorded by the Passengers and studio tracks recorded with the Angie Pepper Band were released in 2001 on Sydney's Citadel Records as the retrospective compilation "It's Just That I Miss You".
Rough mixes of the Passengers material as well as studio tracks recorded by Angie and Deniz in Houston were briefly available through tiny French label Revenge.
"Res Ipsa Loquitor" will be Angie Pepper's first album of newly recorded material in years, and signals a powerful renaissance for this great singer, described by Aretha Franklin's producer Arif Mardin as having a "most special voice". - from: https://www.careerrecords.com

Balbi and Stanley formed the psychedelic pop group Electric Hippies in 1993 and had top 30 success with the single, "Greedy People", and debut album, Electric Hippies both released in 1994. Electric Hippies were producers for different artists including, Vincent Stone, Jenny Morris and Nikka Costa (Stanley's wife). By 1997, Balbi had formed another band, Universe. …Stuart Fraser was also guitarist on Jesus Christ Superstar 1992 Australian Cast Recording The Album and the concerts events. After in 1993 Fraser joined The John Farnham band and has remained as a touring and recording member Fraser has recorded on these Farnham albums Romeo's Heart in 1996, 33.1/3 in 2000, The Last Time in 2002, I Remember When I Was Young in 2005, Jack in 2010 and The Acoustic Chapel Sessions 2011 all albums and most tours was alongside John Farnham's longtime guitarist Brett Garsed who shared lead guitar duties with Fraser. On Sunday 1 December 2019, Fraser died after battling lung cancer since 2016.
Stevens returned to his solo career and released further albums; he appeared as the host of the reality TV show The Resort. In 1999, Fraser, Nicol and Stevens reformed Noiseworks (as Noiseworks II) with Chris Becker on bass guitar and Barbara Griffin on keyboards and toured Australia. In 2000 Stevens joined INXS, initially as a touring vocalist, but after being officially installed as a band member in October 2002 he left the band a year later. A single released by this version of the group, "I Get Up", was unsuccessful.[citation needed] At the Gimme Ted benefit concert on 10 March 2001, Noiseworks performed eight songs.
Noiseworks reformed in September 2007, with Scott Aplin on keyboards in place of Stanley, for a national tour with The Choirboys and Balbi's project Move Trees. In December, Stevens announced that Noiseworks planned to return to the studio in 2008 to record their first studio album together in sixteen years. Jon Stevens and the original Noiseworks band members featured on the Red Hot Summer Tour of NSW (in early May 2011) alongside Jimmy Barnes and Thirsty Merc.
It was confirmed on the Noiseworks Facebook page in June 2015 that a new album of material has been recorded and will be released in 2016, followed by a tour. However nothing has been released as yet, as of August 2018. - wiki

Big Kahuna & The Copa Cat Pack "Hawaiian Swing" 1999

I first heard BIG KAHUNA and his COPA CAT PACK on the latest Rosemary Clooney album SENTIMENTAL JOURNEY. That album is a winner and it is easy to see why "the girl singer" loves working with this big band...

...HAWAIIAN SWING is an album to cheer you when you're down; it's an album to play when you are cleaning the house; it's an album to listen to with friends at a party; it's an album to make you listen to songs you know and have heard your whole life (i.e. Benny Goodman's "Stompin' At The Savoy' or Dizzie Gillespie's "Night in Tunisia," etc.)and hear them as if for the first time. It's a big band sound with a 21st Century, Hawaiian twist. The vocals are handled terrifically by The Big Kahuna and Linda Harmon. The entire band is comprised of saxes, trumpets, piano, trombones, bass and drums. It is a sound that will catch you off guard and make you smile...broadly. I have played this album, literally, dozens of times since buying it less than a month ago. The sound, as usual with Concord Jazz, is first rate.
It's hard to pick favorites on this dizzyingly fine CD, but I especially liked the gorgeous Johnny Mercer ballad, "I Remember You," Duke Ellington's "Love You Madly" and one of the wonderful original songs: Matt Catingub's (The Kahuna, himself)"After Hours." Catingub also plays alto sax, piano and arranges the various numbers! And wait til you hear their version of Rosie's classic "Come On-A-My House" sung by Catingub with David Wells on tenor sax. Wow: What a great album. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. - MOVIE MAVEN

Noiseworks "Touch" 1988

Noiseworks was formed in Sydney with the line up of Steve Balbi on bass guitar and backing vocals; Stuart Fraser on guitar and backing vocals; Kevin Nicol on drums; Justin Stanley on keyboards, harmonica and backing vocals; and Jon Stevens on lead vocals. After quickly establishing a solid following on Sydney's pub rock circuit, Noiseworks was signed by CBS. Their first single, "No Lies", reached the Top 40 on the Kent Music Report Singles Chart. "Take Me Back" was more successful, making No. 7, and became one of the band's best known songs…

…In June 1987 they released their debut self-titled album, Noiseworks, which was produced by Mark Opitz (The Angels, Cold Chisel) and engineered by Alan Wright (INXS, Icehouse, Ratt). It peaked at No. 6 on the Kent Music Report Albums Chart. "Love Somebody" and "Welcome to the World" were also lifted from the album, but neither made the Top 40. Noiseworks sold more than 210,000 copies (3× platinum) in Australia. "Burning Feeling" was released as the album's fifth single in early 1988, and missed the top 50.
On 11 November 1988, their second album Touch was released and debuted at No. 5 on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Albums Chart. The album was produced by Chris Kimsey (The Rolling Stones, Killing Joke, Marillion) and Noiseworks, and engineered by Al Wright (Hoodoo Gurus, Jimmy Barnes, Divinyls). The title track preceded it as the first single, peaking at No. 12 on the ARIA Singles Chart. Subsequent singles "Voice of Reason", "Simple Man" and "In My Youth" failed to make the Top 40. Nevertheless, Noiseworks was now one of Australia's most popular live rock acts.
The third album, Love Versus Money, had production started by Noiseworks but was initially rejected by their new label, Sony. Sony brought in Randy Jackson to assist in the album's production. Love Versus Money featured guest appearances by Michael Hutchence of INXS, Vika and Linda Bull and Penny Ford of the techno group Snap!. The first two singles, "Freedom" and "Miles & Miles" were moderate hits, but the third, the hard-rocking "Hot Chilli Woman", reached No. 7 and propelled the album to the top of the chart when it was released on 5 July 1991. Late in the year, a fourth single "R.I.P. (Millie)", a tribute to Stevens' mother who had recently died from cancer, was also released.
Stevens joined the cast of the Australian production of Jesus Christ Superstar in early 1992 in the role of Judas. Noiseworks disbanded following a final show in Sydney in March 1992. Later that year, the Greatest Hits compilation appeared, featuring a cover of The Beatles hit "Let It Be" which was released as a single. It had been recorded live at their last performance. The Morells "Shake And Push" 1982

How's this for an intriguing assortment of musicians: a middle-aged couple (he, once of Arthur "Sweet Soul Music" Conley's band, on bass and guitar; she on keyboards; both sing), a phenomenal guitarist who'd be stiff competition for Dave Edmunds and Brian Setzer if he were based in a city larger than Springfield, Missouri and - on occasional sax - a fellow whose main occupation is producing unconventional country star Boxcar Willie. Guitarist D. Clinton Thompson (who also served in the Ozark Mountain Daredevils) and bassist Lou Whitney (producer of the first Del-Lords LP) have been together in a variety of lineups; the former's superb "Driving Guitars" 45 rescued a swell Ventures tune from obscurity. In the Skeletons and Original Symptoms, they have mined the vaults of rock, R&B and country arcana for some ought-to-have-been classics and the inspiration to pen their own instant winners.
The Morells can easily slay most revivalist bands, and Shake and Push proves it with a casualness that's all the more ingratiating. A dozen bars into the second track, if you ain't slobbering on the LP jacket wondering where you're gonna find a dee-luxe greaseburger place like "Red's," then you just ain't American. Jon Stevens (born 8 October 1961, Upper Hutt, New Zealand) is a New Zealand-born Australian singer of Māori descent. He moved to Australia in the early 1980s and found considerable success later that decade as lead vocalist for the band Noiseworks. He was the lead singer of INXS between 2000 and 2003.

Noiseworks are an Australian hard rock band formed in Sydney in 1986 with bass guitarist Steve Balbi, guitarist Stuart Fraser, drummer Kevin Nicol, keyboardist Justin Stanley and lead vocalist Jon Stevens. They had four Australian Top 10 albums, Noiseworks (No. 6, 1987), Touch (No. 5, 1988), Love Versus Money (No. 1, 1991) and Greatest Hits (No. 4, 1992). They produced three Top 10 singles, "Take Me Back", "Touch" and "Hot Chilli Woman" before disbanding in 1992. Reunion tours occurred in 1999, 2004, 2007–2008 and 2011.
New Zealand-born pop singer Jon Stevens had released a solo album and several hit singles (including a duet with Sharon O'Neill) before relocating to Sydney in 1981. Stevens recorded a self-titled album for the Big Time label, two singles were issued but neither were successful. In 1983, Stevens formed The Change with guitarist Stuart Fraser, who had played in 1970s hard rock act Blackfeather (later called Feather) and then with fellow member Swanee. Bass player Steve Balbi, who was a member of Kevin Borich Express and played with The Change on their 1984 single "Forever Young". The following year, Stevens and Fraser hired Balbi and drummer Kevin Nicol (ex-Dial X). "The Chiswick Story" 1975-1982 - disc 2

The story of Ace's parent label makes a welcome return to catalogue after a period of absence. Updated with fabulous 2013-style packaging a four-panel digipak with slipcase the double CD set has two 24-page booklets telling the detailed story of one of the first of the new wave of indy labels in the mid 70s…

...As pointed out in the recent BBC TV documentary Punk Britannia, Chiswick Records was the bridge between the Pub Rock of the early 70s and the Punk Rock of the end of the decade. It was the label that launched a thousand (well several) careers. Joe Strummer made his recording debut for the label; the late and much lamented Kirsty MacColl made her pseudonymous debut singing background vocals with the Drug Addix as Mandy Doubt; Billy Bragg with his group Riff Raff fired his opening salvo for the label. Johnny and the Self Abusers in part mutated into Simple Minds. Motörhead s debut album threatened the nation on Chiswick. The Damned s finest hour well around 40 minutes anyway launched them into the charts for three (of a handful) of chart hits on the label. Rama Lama Ding Dong, the first hit for Rocky Sharpe and the Replays, has been a recent You Tube sensation. Chiswick Records was Rock'n'Roll, Punk Rock, Quirky Pop, Art Rock and a whole lot of good music. As the slogan said Better than a smack in the ear with a flying beer can and you can confirm that by listening to this double comp of the label's finest 2 hours 26 minutes and 25 seconds of recorded dynamite...

Peter Nelson & The Castaways "Down in the Mine" 1965-67, Compilation ed. 2017

Peter Nelson and the Castaways originated in Christchurch, where Peter Nelson had previously been in another Christchurch group called The Diamonds.  The Diamonds consisted of (in order from left in the image below) - Ray Messervy on bass, Don Clarkson on guitar, Doug Petrie on drums, David Henderson on guitar, with Kaye Bassett and Peter Nelson handling the vocals…

...They released one single in 1963 which was "Ventures In Paradise"/"Lucille", both sides were instrumentals.  When The Diamonds split up, Peter Nelson and The Castaways with Kaye Bassett was formed, and the new line-up consisted of Peter Nelson and Kaye Bassett (Vocalists), Len Ormsby (Lead Guitar), Don Clarkson (Bass), Doug Henderson (Rhythm Guitar) and Doug Petrie (Drums).  On moving to Wellington in 1965 (at which time Kaye Bassett left), they became known exclusively as Peter Nelson and The Castaways.  Peter Gillette on the VOX continental organ (who had been playing in The Opposition at The Plainsman when the Castaways left Christchurch), was recruited into the band, and he then also moved to Wellington.
Once established in Wellington, Peter Nelson and the Castaways played locally and appeared on the local TV show Teen Scene.  They recorded two singles, "Down the Road A Piece"/"I'll Go Crazy" and "Baby Can I Take You Home"/"I'll Never Be Blue".  By this time the band had substantiated the following line-up: Peter Nelson (Lead Vocalist), Len Ormsby (Lead Guitar), Don Clarkson (Bass), Doug Henderson (Rhythm Guitar), Doug Petrie (Drums), Peter Gillette (Keyboards).  Peter Nelson and the Castaways made a strong reputation for themselves with their quirky choice of their own originals mixed with rhythm and blues.  Their biggest hit was "Down In The Mine" written by Peter Hindmarsh.  Another single was released, "Goin' Out Of My Mind"/"Skye Boat Song", then the group took the plunge and left for Australia in 1966.  Peter Nelson left them soon after to find fame as a solo artist and was replaced by new vocalist Frankie Stevens, after which the band changed its name to The Castaways.

Jenny Morris "Clear Blue In Stormy Skies" 2006

...In Rip It Up (April 1992) she knew what she wanted, “Fame doesn’t really attract me that much, I’m sort of ambivalent about it, but I do like success.” A non-executive writer-director since 1995, in 2013 Jenny Morris was named Chair of the board of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), replacing fellow New Zealander Mike Perjanik. Morris performed her last concert at Taronga Park Zoo, Sydney, in 2014. A croakiness in her voice in recent years was diagnosed as spasmodic dysphonia (also known as laryngeal dystonia). She told the ABC in 2015, “I sound like a 50-year-old crone who's been smoking three packs a day for 30 years, and not in a good way.”  In September 2018 it was announced Morris would be inducted into the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame at the Apra Silver Scroll. Earlier in 2018 she contributed a Songwriter's Choice column to AudioCulture, describing 10 or her favourite songs by New Zealand songwriters. In the 2019 New Year’s Honours list Jenny Morris was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to music and charity fundraising. - AUDUOCULTURE
