Motor Boys Motor was a british rhythm ‘n’ blues band. the guys had met each other on a fishing trip in the fall of 1980. Motor Boys Motor existed only for this one album. The band later evolved to The Screaming Blue Messiahs, substituting Bill Carters weird, unique and experimental guitar-licks with a drooling wall of noise.
Just in case you don't know, when the singer quit this band the rest of them became The Screaming Blue Messiahs, and its pretty much up to the same standard, maybe a little less manic but generally more focused and driven. Similar themes too 'Here Come The Flintstones' being one of their songs. Takes a few plays but its a keeper (my original vinyl is still in my collection after nearly 30 years). Jerry Cole & His Spacemen "Surf Age" 1964

Jerry Cole was a first-rank studio guitarist who, like many members of the Wrecking Crew, cut a few instrumental albums under his own name during the 1960s when he wasn't busy playing hot licks on other folks' records......Cole's 1964 LP Surf Age featured a dozen wordless rock tunes in which he laid out some impressive twangy leads over rather generic-sounding melodies, with a tight rhythm section behind him (Hal Blaine and Earl Palmer both played drums on these dates) and some honking sax thrown in for good measure (courtesy of Steve Douglas). Cole and co-producer Jim Economides wrote all the songs on this set, which tend not to have a lot of personality of their own (and "Racing Waves" bears a curious resemblance to Lonnie Mack's "Wham"), but this isn't an album about songcraft -- this is a blowing session where a bunch of talented studio cats have some fun knocking out rock & roll that's polished and frantic at the same time, and on that score, this album delivers the goods. Cole's guitar work lacks the feral intensity of Dick Dale, but he's an agile picker and his tone choices are excellent, ranging from the bright cleanliness of the title track to the reverb-soaked "Deep Surf" and the raunchy fuzz on "One Color Blues." And this album is a testament to the effortless skill and enthusiasm of the great Los Angeles session players of the '60s, who could knock out records this good as easily as some kid at McDonald's flips a hamburger. If you dig vintage surf sounds or classic-era instrumental rock, then Surf Age is right up your alley. The Tall Dwarfs "3 EP's" 1994

The Hello Cruel World compilation is the best way to get acquainted with Tall Dwarfs, but if you want just one of their other albums, this is probably the best choice…...Recorded in 1992 and 1993, it has just as much variety as any other disc (compilation or otherwise) by the group, but doesn't wear out its welcome as much over the course of the merry-go-round. Some of their most spaced-out stuff is here: the fogged-over hurdy-gurdy waltz of "Bob's Yer Uncle," the stoner psychedelia of "Two Dozen Lousy Hours" (complete with warp-simulation sound effects), the white blues satire (how long has it been since you heard one of those?) "Postmodern Deconstructivist Blues." They can't resist succumbing to numbing repetitive lo-fi fuzz riffs from time to time (as on "Self-Deluded Dreamboy (In a Mess)"), but after a dozen years it seems unreasonable to expect that they'll grow up in this regard. - AllMusic Review by Richie Unterbergertrax:

Jerry Cole & His Spacemen "Outer Limits" (The Way-Out Swingin' Instrumental Sounds Of...) 1963

Jerry Cole (born Jerald Kolbrak; September 23, 1939 – May 28, 2008) was an American guitarist who recorded under his own name, under various budget album pseudonyms and as an uncredited session musician……Raised in Chicago, Cole first entered the pop music scene as one of The Champs along with Glen Campbell. Campbell and Cole formed the Gee Cee's after they left the Champs and released one single called "Buzzsaw Twist". Cole increased his income and recordings by playing for various budget albums with a variety of credits. In an interview with Psychotronic Video issue #31, Cole explained his dealings with Crown Records. Crown would request five surf albums, five country and western albums and five easy listening albums. Cole would write nine different songs for each album to back one cover version of a hit of the time, organize a band, arrange and record the music for master tapes that he would deliver to Crown in about three weeks time; doing an album or two in a day. Impressed by his playing as a session musician, Bobby Darin recommended him to Capitol Records where he led an instrumental surf guitar group called "Jerry Cole and his Spacemen". Capitol tried Cole as a vocalist but found his voice wasn't strong enough.
Throughout the 1960s, Cole was a highly sought-after session player, working with The Byrds ("Mr. Tambourine Man" / "I Knew I'd Want You"), Nancy Sinatra ("These Boots Are Made for Walkin'"), The Beach Boys (Pet Sounds LP) and Paul Revere & the Raiders ("Kicks") among others. He recorded as one of "The Wrecking Crew" and as a writer, arranger and conductor for numerous pop groups and performers and performed on many American television shows of the time. He led the pit bands of the teenage music shows Hullabaloo and Shindig!.[4] His bandleader abilities were also tapped by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Roger Miller, and Ricky Nelson and he was a first-call guitarist on TV show bands for Andy Williams, Sonny & Cher, The Smothers Brothers, Laugh In, and Dick Van Dyke.

Jerry Cole (born Jerald Kolbrak; September 23, 1939 – May 28, 2008) was an American guitarist who recorded under his own name, under various budget album pseudonyms and as an uncredited session musician.Twenty early-sixties instrumental rockers, most tied (if nominally) to surf music, taken from three 1963-64 Capitol albums (Surf Age, Hot Rod Dance Party, and Outer Limits). Cole was different from the average surf guitarist: he was more experienced and versatile, a result of his extensive experience in Los Angeles sessions. His arrangements were also slicker--in the favorable sense of that adjective--with tight, and tightly paced, arrangements (frequently with brass) that reflected his proximity to the world of Hollywood film and television. So it is that much of this sounds like cool background music for action sequences in early-to-mid-sixties teen-oriented movies and TV shows. Perhaps his closest counterparts in this regard would be the Marketts (whose "Out of Limits" Cole covers here); there are also strong echoes of the Ventures, and occasional nods to exotica. This is less "garage-y, " perhaps, than much vintage surf music, but no less powerful. It's also more melodically varied than most vintage surf acts were, and Cole excels at coaxing an impressive assortment of thick, assertive tones from his axe. As a consequence, this disc is recommended to surf fans who are getting a bit tired of the same-old generic Southern California sound as the reissue vaults get more deeply plundered, and want to hear a refreshingly different take on the style. - AllMusic Review by Richie Unterbergermembers:

The Tall Dwarfs "Weeville" 1990

As the liner notes proclaim, this is "the first straightforward LP by Tall Dwarfs......in terms of having the same number of tracks on each side -- both of which play at the same speed and which ain't a compilation." If Tall Dwarfs had only done one or two albums, this would have seemed like a more impressive document. But new ground isn't broken here. It's more of the same eclectic melange of homespun, latter-day psychedelia. The converted will have no complaints. But for the money Weeville's much better when it abandons the arty noise for acoustic guitar driven and airy melodies, as it does here on a number of occasions. - AllMusic Review by Richie Unterbergertrax:

"THE ROCK 'N' ROLL SCENE" Decca Records

This is a fascinating and delightful CD, but it takes a little listening time and patience to get at why. For 14 years, from 1956 through 1970, England's Decca Records was one of the big two British record labels, in competition with giant conglomerate EMI (and smaller rival Pye Records bringing up the rear)…...This 25-song compilation celebrates the early years of the label's involvement in rock & roll from the May 1956 recording of "Downbound Train" by Ken Colyer's Skiffle Group through such uniquely British phenomenons as Screaming Lord Sutch (the best thing here) and Wee Willie Harris to genuine stars like Billy Fury and early-'60s also-rans like Russ Saintly and Danny Rivers to such lost figures as Freddie Starr from the spring of 1963. There are about a dozen tracks that are going to surprise any American (and even a lot of Brits) who buy this disc, in terms of how hard they rock and how well the singers and the bands understand what they're doing. On the other hand, about half of what's here wouldn't rate alongside the American article, and the majority of U.S. listeners will find most of this material rather tame and predictable -- but the exceptions are worth the price of admission, once one gets to them. The compilers decided to make this disc representative of the label's output, rather than uniformly good, so there's some adenoidal teen pop next to the good stuff. The CD is entertaining and informative, and contains a revelation or two, but it's also funny to realize that within a few weeks of the latest recordings featured here, Decca Records signed the Rolling Stones, followed in short order by the original (that is, R&B-era) Moody Blues and the Small Faces, all making sounds that would sweep this relatively innocent, freewheeling early era aside. ~ Bruce Eder, All Music Guidetrax:

"Bikini-Mania-De Lo Instrumental… Lo Mejor" 2005

Now we go with Mr. Bikini's second album, released in 2005. Actually it is a compilation that covers all the alternate projects of the members of Mr. Bikini, where they play with the change of names and with all the subgenres of the instrumental rock (surf, garage, western) and whose recordings range from 2001 to 2005...…In addition to Mr. Bikini, there are themes from Mascara Del Mar & His Dragon Surfers , Big Mask and their covers to Ramones in surf, The Remoras and their creepy and grim sound, Tumbler Plate (which I once read described as the sound of 40 robots on stage) and the western of The Twangers . The CD includes 17 tracks but includes a couple of surprises if you insert it into your computer. The first is a folder that includes 11 mp3 songs and a couple of videos. These are 5 songs by Mr. Bikini that have appeared in different compilations such as Intoxicated Melodies , the tribute to Polla Records where they collaborate with Aknez de Massacre 68 and the surfing tribute to Frank Zappa. The rest are themes of Black Mask , a musical project that consisted in making remixes of Mr. Bikini's songs. "Klitori Master" corresponds to "Mystery", "The Night of the Mona" to "The Holy Had A Hot Rod", "Morfo Surf" to "Casino Shanghai" and "Zoom Orgasm" to "Walk Don't Run". Strange experiment but it had its lucky parts. There are also a couple of videos, the first is an interview that Big Mask did to the grandson of the inventor of the wrestler mask and the second is a video recorded in 2001 in a strange concert of Mr. Bikini next to Aknez in front of a empty auditorium (currently what is left in Mr. Bikini's concerts is public). And the second surprise is another folder with 8 videos of the different stages and bands of the members of Mr. Bikini. In my opinion, the video of "La Arena" stands out because it was recorded in the Zocalo at the legendary Surf & Arena festival in 2005 (the best and largest surf festival that has existed in Mexico). A mega compilation that shows the versatility of the members of Mr. Bikini and somehow does justice to one of the best Mexican bands.trax:

Tall Dwarfs "Hello Cruel World" 1987 - everythig from 1981 to 1984

Leaving the bulk of their catalog to the Flying Nun label, Tall Dwarfs have found another friend in the Homstead imprint for releasing this excellent collection of tracks from a handful of the group's rare EP's…...The New Zealand lo-fi innovators are certainly well-represented with these 22 varied and top-notch sides from the first half of the '80s. Sr. Bikini "En Vivo Multiforo Alicia 2008" 2009 + "Apología 15 Años" 2014 EP

On June 7, 2008, Mr. Bikini recorded his first live album at Multiforo Alicia, which so far is the only Mexican surfing band that has achieved it…...Somehow they managed to capture the fresh, wild and reverberant sound of the concert on the album.
They played as much as they could, it was a marathon concert (within the surf standard) with themes of all the protections of the members of Mr. Bikini with a pair of surprise covers, "The Fly" (The Mummies) and "Small Craft Advisory "(Satan's Pilgrims) because the other covers already had enough time to interpret them regularly. And in the extra musical part, the album comes in a pretty and handmade cardboard packaging and also includes a generous booklet with many photos of the band.

The Tall Dwarfs "That's the Short and the Long of it" 1985

It's true, to a certain degree, that there isn't a great deal of variation in Tall Dwarfs' approach from record to record. It's also true, to a greater degree, that you can always count on a great deal of variation within any given record itself…...That's the case with this hybrid LP-EP, which showed the group capable of expanding their template from their earliest releases. Side one, which plays at 45 rpm, has two related pieces, "Nothings Going to Happen" and "Nothings Going to Stop It," which sound sort of like a garage Sgt. Pepper with their lo-fi wall of orchestral psychedelia. It's back to 33 rpm for the ten songs on side two, a salad bar with samplings of pretty acoustic guitar, a bit of surf influence, some blasts of garage organ, nods to both Lennon and McCartney ("Woman" sounds like primal scream-era Lennon backed by a sloppy San Francisco psychedelic act), and more. - AllMusic Review by Richie Unterbergertrax:

King Kurt "Ooh Wallahwallah" 1983

Way back when, during the 'Rise of the Machine' some time in the spring of 1981, Rockin' Kurt and his Saur Krauts started pounding the well-rotten boards of the London Rock'n'Roll clubs and pubs...…Initially the line up consisted of Jeff Harvey -- vocals, (Handsome) John Reddington -- guitar, Alan (Junior, later aka Maggot) Power -- saxamaphone, Robert (Boppin' Bert) Boustead -- bass, Mark (Rory) Lyons -- drums, and after seeing their second show, Paul (Thwack) Laventhol joined on geeter in time for the third gig in July of '81. During the autumn of that year, Rockin' Kurt & His SK's took a trip up to Bangor, North Wales, where Jeff had some chums who'd set up two shows. They were well attended, at least 5 people came to both shows! After spending our hard-earned cash (20 pounds for both nights I seem to recall, and no, not each, altogether!), we drove back through the Welsh hills to London. On our way we decided to do a show for the passing tourists in their lovely warm coaches while we stood on a big rock.  From that day on we dropped the 'Roc' from Rockin' Kurt and his Saur Krauts (was too long and hard to say it pissed!) and became known simply as King Kurt.
'Til spring of '82 King Kurt remained the same, doing gigs around local London, the Fridge, Clarendon, the Pits, Old Queens Head etc, dressing up in silly clothes, playing to packed houses of at least three people, giving out prizes of sauseges and sauerkraut to anyone who dared dance. Rory had been busy getting King Kurt regular shows at the 101 Club in Clapham where he worked, and by this time the momentum of virual popularity was growing. Alas Jeff was getting itchy feet and wanted to leave the music bigtime and go to art school in Birmingham. King Kurt needed a replacement singer, and needed one fast! Along came The Smeg. Things looked good. King Kurt could say goodbye to Jeff and continue on the crazy lonesome train ride that was upon them.
KK gave Jeff a big farewell 'do' at the 101 Club in Clapham. KK invited everybody they knew. KK dressed up to the nines. The club had more drink than a brewery. KK baked Jeff a cake. Oops. KK covered Jeff in the cake. Well, that was it. All over.
King Kurt's fate had been sealed. As soon as Jeff got caked, all hell broke loose and it was a massive drunken food fight of a night. What a 'kin great laugh it was too! Ever since then, the audience, (not wanting to miss out on an opportunity like that), started bringing their own food to throw at the band, as well as each other! En el 2008 se editó este álbum acústico de Sr. Bikini. En el booklet se explica que la idea de hacerlo surgió el 22 de abril del 2005 cuando se presentaron en el Festival Surf & Arena en el Zócalo capitalino y ese día interpretaron "La Arena" en forma acústica. Fue así que decidieron grabar todo un álbum acústico tanto con temas propios como covers. Mis favoritas son las versiones que hicieron de "Apache" de The Shadows, "Baja" de The Astronauts y "Mr. Moto" de The Bel-Airs. Wes Montgomery "Tequila" 1966

On two of the songs included on Tequila, "Tequila" and "The Thumb," Wes Montgomery had an opportunity to jam a bit while backed just by bassist Ron Carter, drummer Grady Tate and the congas of Ray Barretto…...The other six selections utilize a string section arranged by Claus Ogerman but, even with a throwaway version of "What the World Needs Now Is Love," there are memorable renditions of "Bumpin' on Sunset" and "Insensatez" that uplift this album quite a bit beyond the guitarist's later A&M recordings. - AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow

Sr.Bikini is a band from Mexico City. They recorded Frank Zappa's 'Jewish Princess' for an upcoming Zappa Surf album on Cordelia records.They were kind enough to anser my ‘surf questions”:
UM: What kind of music do you normally play?
Sr.Bikini: Instrumental Classical Surf Rock.
UM: Are you a Surf kind of person or band?Is it your way of life? Do you really want to live in California?
Sr.Bikini: We just play Surf Rock, we don’t surf, but we have some friends that surf and we sometimes go to the beach to play in some contests and parties.
UM: Do you play (have you ever played) other Zappa compositions? Performed them live? Put them on record?
Sr.Bikini: Yes, we do play other Zappa compositions in concert, but we haven’t put them on record.
UM: Do you have records out? Discography?
Sr.Bikini: We have one album out, it’s called "Surf Extremo" and we have participated in 4 compilations.
UM: How did you find out about Alan's Zappa Surf Project?
Sr.Bikini:: Through Reverborama.
UM: Were you already playing a Zappa Surf Classic before you heard of Alan's project, or did you start working on it after you found out about the project?
Sr.Bikini: We were already playing the song.
UM: Why this particular Zappa composition?
Sr.Bikini: We picked ‘Jewish Princess’ because we have always found it a funny song.
UM: Is it your favourite Zappa composition or just the one that needs a Surf Treatment?
Sr.Bikini: We always loved the rubber chickens. It`s hard to change a song to an intrumental version, but we have found it harder in songs that really do mean something or that do have something to say. Often, with Zappa, the lyrics are more expressive than his music.Line-up:

Bailter Space "Trinine" 2013

After returning from a 13-year hiatus with Strobosphere in 2012, New Zealand's Bailterspace quickly followed it up with Trinine, their second offering for Fire Records. Recorded by the original lineup of guitarist Alister Parker, drummer Brent McLachlan, and bassist John Halvorsen, this set directly reflects the trio's lineage, it also ups the ante of guitar rock in the 21st century…...Though Strobosphere was muscular, it lacked some of the group's trademark, textured dynamics. Not so here. Trinine looks back while taking on the present concretely. It is a moodier, more experimental, and more sinister affair overall. While Bailterspace's own frenetic, layered tonalities are at work in the "sound" of these compositions, they are underscored by a subtle melodicism, spaciousness, and rhythmic invention that looks back simultaneously to Tago Mago-era Can and early Sonic Youth à la EVOL. The opening title track with its lyric cadence and phrasing, balanced by multi-tracked, low-tuned guitars and wide-open, throbbing basslines, is a case in point. "Tri5," with its drum and guitar attack mixed far above the barely discernible vocals, is more straight-ahead, but Parker's wall of noise is interrupted mid-cut by a single-string vamp, pushed by McLachlan's skittering beat and Halvorsen's solid drone bassline; the storm erupts even more cataclysmically later on, with the vocal being the only thread holding it all together. Other standouts include "In the World," which commences hypnotically along a single undistorted guitar riff that is all but dominated by a two-note bassline and constant snare and tom-tom pulse. Just under three minutes in, it leaves that all behind and enters a maelstrom of counter melody and increasing distortion until it explodes. "Open" creates a taut monotony that leaves the listener desiring a meltdown that never quite emerges. Trinine only falters in the last quarter, where it engages in outright experimentation to mixed result. Though "Silver" maintains a songlike structure even as it enters the frenzied domain of its predecessors, "Gamma Tram," "Films of You," and the demo-esque closer "Tanzenloop" all feel unfinished. Despite these shortcomings, Trinine is a winner: the trio's willingness to simultaneously reflect its influences so openly, yet take chances with its own tropes and established sound, makes for deeply satisfying -- and sometimes headscratching -- listening. - AllMusic Review by Thom Jurektrax:

The Sneetches "Think Again" 1994

Think Again collects six songs previously available as vinyl singles on the Bus Stop label, two of which are covers: Buffalo Springfield's "Flying on the Ground" and the Zombies' "She Does Everything for Me."..…The job they do with "Flying on the Ground" is simply spectacular and the Zombies' song is a particularly apt choice given the Sneetches' fixation with that group (bassist Alec Palao was the man behind the Zombie Heaven box set). The originals rock harder than the Sneetches' earlier efforts, although "A Good Thing," the contemplative piano-based song that closes the disc, is an exception. The U.K. import Obscure Years is recommended for collectors since it includes all of Think Again and more, but Think Again alone is eminently worth its modest purchase price. - AllMusic Review by Greg Adams

Bailter Space "Strobosphere" 2012

Apparently it's still the 1990s inside the minds of Alister Parker and Brent McLachlan, and that's not at all a bad thing. Guitarist Parker and percussionist McLachlan have taken Bailterspace back to the recording studio for the first time since the turn of the century with their 2012 album Strobosphere, and sonically it pretty much picks up where the group left off in 1999 -- Parker still fashions a massive wall of guitar noise that's rough and tuneful at the same time, McLachlan still urges the songs along with his simple but implacable drumming, and the sound and approach of this material recalls those heady days when Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., and My Bloody Valentine were joyously proving that the electric guitar wasn't dead after all…...If that suggests this is an exercise in indie rock nostalgia, a quick listen to Strobosphere confirms that's not the case; Bailterspace are still working within the same musical framework that they established in the late '80s, but the music sounds and feels as powerful and engaging as ever, and Parker's many layers of thick, scratchy guitar sounds fit together with the firm snap of a jigsaw puzzle and a melodic strength that's elegant but powerfully strong. The songs on Strobosphere sometimes seem like frameworks more than fully formed melodic entities, but it's Parker's guitars that put muscle on the bones, and from the sounds of this he's been hitting the gym regularly in recent years. The performances sound fresh and alive, with enough scrap and spontaneity to suggest the dynamics of a live performance (as do the sudden fade-outs on several tracks), though everything here is purposeful and well focused. Strobosphere isn't a comeback for Bailterspace, it's a continuation, and confirms one of the great guitar bands of its day hasn't given up on the mission of discovering how much wonder can be summoned from a few fuzzy chords. - AllMusic Review by Mark Demingtrax:

Bailter Space "Solar 3" 1998

Bailter Space close out the '90s in fine form with Solar 3. While not quite up to the standards of Capsul and Photon, it still shows the threesome ready to begin their third decade of performance with as much energy as they had when starting off as the Gordons……Perhaps consciously aiming at a return to the bliss-outs of the Thermos/Robot World days, on a number of songs Bailter Space combine the textures of those albums with the more stripped-down and straightforward approaches of later years. "Right Now" fuses these elements especially well, with layers of chiming guitars and feedback shooting throughout the mix, the rhythm driving along just so, and Parker singing almost like the Jesus & Mary Chain's Jim Reid in sneer mode on the chorus. He repeats the trick on "So Am I," but it doesn't work as well -- indicative of the up-and-down nature of the record. At points, what should be more great over-the-top rock-outs from the band merely sound like lazy smash-and-bash by rote: "Windows on the World" is something other groups could do just fine, but it wastes the talents of the trio. At the same time, quieter numbers like "Locher" allow Bailter Space to demonstrate that it's not all sheer fuzz and attack on the band's part, though sometimes the spark can be missing a bit from them as well. Overall, though, Solar 3 is disappointing only in the sense that Wammo was: While the three members aren't at their absolute best, they're still much better than most, and the two records suffer in comparison only to the rest of the band's back catalog. When things fully connect -- as on the gorgeous, lengthy flow of "Tide" -- few can touch them. - AllMusic Review by Ned Raggetttrax:
