Sagittarius – Present Tense
Featuring:
Another Time
My World Fell Down
LP = Columbia CS 9644 (USA 1967)
Single = CBS 2867 (The Netherlands 1967)
The story:
Producer Gary Usher heard the original version of “My World Fell Down” by British band The Ivy League, and thought it would fit Chad And Jeremy well. They refused, so Usher decided to record the track himself. He brought in Los Angeles session musicians, as well as drafting friends such as Beach Boys touring alumni Glen Campbell (who did the lead vocal), Bruce Johnston, singer-turned-producer Terry Melcher and producer / singer Curt Boettcher for vocals. He finished the recording by adding a “musique concrète” bridge. He presented it to Columbia executives under the group name Sagittarius, named after his astrological sun sign.
The single was released and was a big hit, so an LP followed, and you have it here.
However, when "My World Fell Down" was issued on the album, the song lacked the same artistic statement that the “musique concrète” section delivered to the composition, as that segment was removed from it altogether.
So I have have added the original single long version from my Netherlands single as a bonus track.
The song is often referred to as “the best Beach Boys track the Beach Boys never recorded”.

West African Music rounds off the week with Mali's greatest treasure, the much loved and deeply missed, Kassé Mady Diabaté (1949 – 24th May 2018)
Kassé Mady Diabaté was born in Kela town in Koulikoro Region, known as the capital of griots with a rich musical tradition.
In the early 70's he started singing with his brother's band Super Mande, before joining the National Badema du Mali who were formed to promote and preserve Malian musical traditions while incorporating modern elements.
In the mid 80s he moved to Paris, and made a number of albums before returning to Mali where, thanks to people like Kanté Manfila, there was a rebirth of interest in traditional acoustic music.
As well as his solo albums he also went on to perform and record with 'Toumani Diabaté Symmetric Orchestra' and the wonderous collaborations between musicians from Mali and Cuba 'AfroCubism'.
In 2025 One World Records released 'Toumaro' an album he recorded with his daughter Hawa, herself a now established singer of renown with her group 'Trio Da Kali'.

Would someone have a remastered version of The Clash- Sandinista?
After hearing the remastered London Calling I decided I needed an upgrade on Sandinista.
I found one, and like an idiot I deleted the old version before I found out that the version I downloaded is a weird file type that none of my tools will convert. Arrgh!
Thanks,
-Rick

John Hicks - A Billy Strayhorn Songbook - Something to Live For
"AllMusic wrote that Hicks "shows his softer side here, tackling the lush romanticism of Strayhorn's timeless compositions with an appropriately light touch and sense of nuance". JazzTimes called it "a fine stroll through familiar Strayhorn terrain that pays substantial dividends"

Thank you Searnav.
@sambgodot Many thanks for the Soul Asylum, especially for the rarities. Seriously underrated band (pre-'Runaway Train'). Great live band too. Saw them at every opportunity in 1987 to 89 whenever they played London. Even played at the fuckin' Sir George Robey! That's how under the radar they were in Europe.
Glad you liked it and let me know, Chairman.
Best regards
Frank
