Various Artists – Gene Clark Heard Them Here First
Gene Clark was one of the most talented and most prolific singers/songwriters of his generation.
I have posted 5 Various Artists “Tribute To Gene Clark” CDs (1 triple, 2 doubles and 2 singles) of songs he wrote.
But he also recorded and sang other people’s songs.
Here’s a first compilation of 30 tracks, original versions of songs he sang.
Spread on disc 2 and disc 3 are Gene Clark’s versions of the same songs in the same running order. You might not be familiar with many tracks that were never officially released. Some song titles or lyrics might have been slightly changed for the Gene Clark versions.
I didn’t include songs he recorded as a member of The Byrds.
This compilation is not exhaustive! At least 31 more other artists’ songs were also recorded and released by Gene Clark or sung live by him and appearing on unofficial albums. A “volume 2” with these other tracks will follow in the foreseeable future.

Excellent Gene Clark comp. People tend to think of him primarily as a writer but he was also a very good singer and interpreter.

Caro Emerald remains a secret in the USA. I discovered her early on and have been a rabid fan. I'm also a huge admirer of her guitar player. My gypsy swing band covers four Caro Emerald tunes, three of which give me an opportunity to play electric guitar with effects (not the norm in my musical niche).
We also cover tunes by Zaz and by Hindi Zahra. All this stuff is completely unfamiliar to our audience, but they respond with great enthusiasm.
