"BO DID IT!" Vol. 1

Here is an earlier series that Johnny Q. compiled before the stellar 25 Volume "A New Kind Of Mambo" series. This series was inspired by this LP, so we are presenting it here first. After this, we will give you many more volumes with "The Bo Diddley Beat". There are plenty of great surprises in store with these compilations!
Tracks here range from reverby surf instros (the Abstracts' "Bo Gumbo") to rock and roll pounders (the Night Riders' "Pretty Plaid Skirts") to R&B (Mumbles Scott & the Esquires' "Baby What You Want Me To Do") to `60s garage-punk (the Descendents' "Lela"). And there's a whole lot more in between from the likes of Richard Barrett, the Talismen (yep, the Brit group), the Monterays, and even those Swedish spacemen the Spotnicks.
All have one thing in common: the raw, jungle rhythm made popular by Mr. Bo Diddley. It's a feast of scratchy rhythm guitars, minimal chord changes, thumpin' tom-toms and maracas in motion.
On the minus side, the liner notes are a bit thin of facts. Also, although the cover photo of Bo's first long player initially amused me, I now find it strangely annoying.
The sound quality, however, is first rate on almost everything, and with eighteen cuts there ain't a clunker amongst `em (with the possible exception of the novelty "Bonus Cut").
