Les Play Boys were Vince Taylor’s backing band. They went through numerous personnel changes (details in booklet), but always remained a tight outfit for live performances or studio recordings. Their most famous members were Tony Meehan, Brian Locking and Brian Bennett (all three future Shadows), Clive Powell (aka Georgie Fame), Tony Sheridan (no introduction necessary) as well as Bobbie Woodman, aka Bobby Clarke, who once was recruited as a drummer for a band that would become Deep Purple. Since storming the charts in 1967 with the remarkable “The Rain, the Park and Other Things,” the Cowsills have been oft-overlooked in the annals of rock history, dismissed as nothing more than bubblegum. And it is this heartbreaking story of a family group — a genuine musical entity — that sheds a greater light and depth into this fascinating act. Narrated by Bob Cowsill (guitar, keyboards and later, lead vocals), Family Band: The Cowsills Story is a portrait of musical vision, family unity, desire to grow, pain, firings, financial mishandling and worst of all, abuse on all levels by their father, Bud Cowsill, who was their manager/tormentor. Initially led by oldest brother, Bill on lead vocals and guitar, The Cowsills were not musical lightweights; their skill as musicians (especially Barry [bass] and John [drums], who were just children when the band actually started) cannot be underestimated and their celestial vocals are no less than “angelic psychedelia.” There are moments in this documentary that make you uncomfortable; the music lifts you up and the tragedy of both Barry’s passing (in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina) and Bill’s passing a few months after simply move you to tears. Told in a warm and lighthearted manner, considering having to relive the pain with his surviving siblings, Bob Cowsill’s telling of their story is powerful and riveting.

thank you for the Cowsills film! My wife will be very happy about that. “The Rain, the Park and Other Things” is one of her and mine all time top 5 and as soon as it comes on she sings along.
Here is a nice one. On 18th of july in 1970, The Stooges and Mc5 performed at Soldiers Filed in Chicago. Someone recorded their both shows, and many years later someone made it digital! The sound is pretty good, or OK (in my opinion), two great shows. It's also fun to hear how the people in the crowd discussed the to band, and their music. This is a cool one.

In 197 Dave Travis made a whole album with Bob Dylan cover, as far as I remember, the LP included an amazing version of I Want You. I lost my LP about yearsago and never heard it since. It there any chance somebody in here hade a rip, i would be the happiest dude in town. :-)

Watching old vids of MC5 on YouTube > really dig the Beat Club videos < makes me only imagine catching them live in their day. It had to be an awesome experience.
That there exists an entity called "The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame" & that the MC5 aren't in it pretty much sums up where the credibility of that said lame ass entity stands today.
I remember when the R&RHoF started & originally thought it a cool idea. All these years later I don't feel the same way anymore.
Dolly Parton removing herself from the nomination was about the most Rock & Roll thing to happen in a long time lol

I totally agree with you. I just a shame that the MC5 didn't get in the house of RRHOF 20 years ago (or more). Without the MC5 Stooges/Iggy never got their deal with Elektra Records, and god knows if the Asheton brothers and Osterberg had make it all, without them. Personally, I prefer MC5 before The Stooges (love them too off course).
Wayne Kramer, Fred Sonic Smith and Rob Tyner meant a lot for rock/punk the whole 1970s in different constillation and as solo act, for the underground rock/punk scene all over the world, and those guys are still influental. In fact a believe the MC5 are more influental today than The Stooges. :-)

Are there any recordings from the MC50 tour? I never got to see the original MC5, but I did get to see Wayne Kramer with the band he assembled for the Kick Out The Jams 50th anniversary tour and I will tell ya...it was the best rock'n'roll show I had seen in 40 years.
