African Jazz: Ndikho Xaba - Ndikho Xaba and The Natives (1969) [Remastered 2015]
Matsuli Music presents soul, spirituality and avant-garde jazz from South African
political exile Ndikho Xaba. Its rarity has until now served to obscure both its
beauty and its historical significance. Making profound links between the struggle
against apartheid and the Black Power movement in the USA Ndikho Xaba and the Natives
is arguably the most complete and complex South African jazz LP recorded in the USA.
It stands out as a critical document in the history of transatlantic black solidarity
and in the jazz culture of South African exiles. This reissue from Matsuli Music
brings this collectors’ treasure back into print for the first time since 1971.
Ndikho Xaba and the Natives opens a fluid channel of sonic energy that courses between
two liberation struggles and two jazz traditions, making them one. It is a critical
statement in the history of transatlantic black solidarity, unifying voices stretching
from San Francisco to Johannesburg. There is no other recording or group in which
the new jazz spirituality of the late 1960s is so fully blended with an African jazz
tradition.
The CD version reproduces this new content in a 24 page booklet as well including
two additional tracks taken from a hard to find single released by Ndikho Xaba’s
band African Echoes.

EDDIE BOND - Memphis Country Music King '15
Eddie Bond staked his claim to rockabilly immortality with a series of hot cuts for Mercury in 1956 and his constant touring with the likes of Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley and Roy Orbison. At heart, though, Eddie was a country music man. This is the first compilation dedicated to Bond's country recordings - from the 1950s to the 1990s. There are at least 15 tracks here that will appeal to his hardcore rockabilly fans, as they are laced with a western boogie beat and some hot guitar work.

Henry Gray & Rudi Richard- Louisiana Swamp Blues Vol. 2 (1990) @320
Dedicated to Slim Harpo, this brief album, recorded in Baton Rouge, LA, in 1990, is a split affair, with blues pianist Henry Gray alternating tracks with guitarist (and accordion player) Rudi Richard in a nifty little swamp blues collection. Although one wishes the two musicians had done some of these songs together, their approach to the blues (different as they are) complement each other well, and the sequence doesn't suffer for this split format. Gray, in particular, has an intriguing sound, adding a certain intangible bayou sensibility to his Chicago piano style, and his rough, everyman vocals on sides like "Talkin' About You" and the self-penned "Gold Chills" carry a degree of authenticity, particularly with Slim Harpo's drummer, Jess Kenchin, pounding away. Richard is less distinctive as a vocalist, but as Harpo's longtime guitarist (he put the guitar sting in "I'm a Kingbee," and if you've heard the song, you know about the sting), he, too, has an authentic claim to this material, and while his version of the bayou chestnut "Tee Ni Nee Na Nu" essentially seems to be by the numbers, his sleek, angular version of "Good for the Goose" is a solid delight. Again, it would have been nice if Gray, Richard, and Kenchin had all worked together on a few of these tracks, but even without that, this set still functions pretty well as a simple and unassuming introduction to Louisiana swamp blues. Much appreciated for the Johnny Bond, Gyro.
The Henry Gray/Rudi Richard Louisiana Swamp Blues record is one I have owned since it first came out. It is actually much better than the Steve Leggett, Allmusic blurb would let you believe. Get it and I bet you'll enjoy it for at least as long as I have. And don't forget to thank Ryp and Gyro.

Your comment is the best chance to send you a great great great THANKS for the album "Mamou", that you shared at the beginning of this year! It's an album that I have enjoyed more and more after each time listening to it.
May I say that, if you have others cajun albums like this one, I'm ready to run to my record shop to buy them!
Thanks again.
