…and now for something completely different! 2037 - 2023

These fucking politicians, warlords and religious... They don't know that they are as superfluous as telephone disinfectors and hairdressers! - RYP

We have a first entry each day that is a picture or a video, and only in that entry you can place your music links and requests (NO ALBUMS RELEASED IN 2021 AND AFTER, AND A DAILY LIMIT OF 3 ALBUMS AND NO REQUESTS FOR FLAC OR OTHER LOSSLESS, IF YOU WANT FLAC, BUY THE ALBUM)! Here you can say what you like, unless it's offensive, racist or discriminatory! Please keep your language polite and respectful. All other official posts will only allow comments related to the official posts and such. That way it will keep things much more organized and tidy. Enjoy! RYP and Gyro1966

The Beatles – The French EPs (1962-1967) – Volume 7

Last one in this series

7-01 – Strawberry Fields Forever + 3

Odeon MEO 134 (1966)

1. The Beatles - A1 Strawberry Fields Forever (4:08)
2. The Beatles - A2 And Your Bird Can Sing (1:58)
3. The Beatles - B1 Penny Lane (3:01)
4. The Beatles - B2 I'm Only Sleeping (2:57)

7-02 – Magical Mystery Tour + 5 (double EP)

Odeon MEO HS 39501/39502 (1967)

France pressed discs in a 7 inch Germany printed gatefold sleeve including a 28-page booklet.

The French mixed things up several times with this release. The first pressing of EP 1 had Lou Rawls’ “Little Drummer Boy” pressed instead of “I Am The Walrus”. They soon pressed a “corrected” version but … replaced the Lou Rawls song with the Beach Boys’ “Darlin’” instead of “I Am The Walrus”! At the time, the Beach Boys song wasn’t even released yet!

Then, on some copies of EP 1, instead of playing “Magical Mystery Tour” and “Your Mother Should Know”, side one only had one track: the Beach Boys’ “Darlin’”.

Check you copies, as these early pressings with errors are selling for high prizes.

The booklet and the labels were correctly printed though, so the only way (apart from listening to the records) to know if you are sitting on big money is to check the matrix numbers.

For completeness sake, I included both “wrong” tracks.

EP 1

1. The Beatles - 1-A1 Magical Mystery Tour (2:48)
2. The Beatles - 1-A2 Your Mother Should Know (2:27)
3. The Beatles - 1-B1 I Am The Walrus (4:34)

4. Lou Rawls - 1-B1-1 Little Drummer Boy (2:53) (wrong track first pressing)
5. The Beach Boys - 1-B1-2 Darlin' (2:11) (wrong track second pressing)

EP 2

1. The Beatles - 2-A1 The Fool On The Hill (2:57)
2. The Beatles - 2-A2 Flying (2:13)
3. The Beatles - 2-B1 Blue Jay Way (3:53)

Both EPs (three discs) in one zip:

@ Eric C

I bought all three of Nick's LPs in the early 70s and, when the Fruit Tree box was released, bought that as well (on import as it wasn't released here) for the four "last songs". A few years later, I loaned it to a friend, who loved it and played it so much he returned it to me scratched to pieces in an absolutely unplayable condition.

I don't miss LPs at all.

I'd be glad for anything of Nick's that I'm missing.

Hello everybody,

I've put together a list of recordings (and some ebooks) that I couldn't get a few years ago.
Today I've thought that if I could find them, it could not only make me happy, but also a few TZ regulars.
If you'll let me, I'll post a few dozen requests (I recently added a few more recent ones to my list).
If you have some of them and want to upload them, that would be great.
Since I have done a "copy > paste" leaving out the most recent issues, I apologize in advance if some recordings after 2021 had slipped in.

The Modern Lovers - The Modern Lovers (1976) [2013]

The Modern Lovers was a collection of demos recorded in 1973 and released as an album in 1976, probably to cash in after Jonathon Richman's Roadrunner was a big hit. And it's quite brilliant.

C. A. Quintet – Trip Thru Hell (1968) [1995]

If there’s one album that epitomises the creativity, philosophy and musical integrity of underground American psychedelic rock of the late 60s, then perhaps Trip Thru Hell is it. Released locally on the bespoke Candy Floss imprint, in very small quantities, it has become one of the most revered and sought-after genre albums of its time.

Thanks a lot for all your Byrds related posts, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman, Parsons, McGuinn and more. This is music right up my alley and I am very grateful to be given the opportunity to hear it all. Your collection seems to be endless so as long as you have the time and energy to do the work I'm in your debt. Much appreciated.

@Susan Donimus

Thank you very much, Susan.
I visit that blog as much as I can, like TZ, but this year I'm being incredibly busy. It's a pity, because I need music for living as I need food.
Now I've checked all my listed ebooks and seen that I've got another one (only): 'Hillbilly...'.

Have a nice week!

@ BigGray.
Thank you for the Nick Drake postings. Amazing that they can be stretched to nine, particularly as his oeuvre is rather small. I first encountered him on September 24th 1969 at The Royal Festival Hall in London where I had gone to hear Fairport Convention. It was post their M1 crash and slightly before the release of Liege and Lief. It was a magic concert with Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny and Dave Swarbrick all in the band which was completed with Simon Nicol and Dave Mattacks. The support acts were John & Beverley Martin and a very nervous Nick Drake who said not a word throughout his brief performance. On the strength of his singing I immediately went out and purchased the Five Leaves album. I await with great interest your future postings. So again any thanks.

Another request, if I may. Does anyone have this album to share, please?

I don't know if it's ever been released on CD.
Thanks in advance, if anyone can.

Today's Preston Sturges-directed movie is: The Sin of Harold Diddlebock (1947)

"The Sin of Harold Diddlebock is a 1947 comedy film written and directed by Preston Sturges, starring the silent film comic icon Harold Lloyd, and featuring a supporting cast including female protagonist Frances Ramsden, Jimmy Conlin, Raymond Walburn, Rudy Vallee, Arline Judge, Edgar Kennedy, Franklin Pangborn, J. Farrell MacDonald, Robert Dudley, Robert Greig, Lionel Stander and Jackie the Lion. The film's story is a continuation of The Freshman (1925), one of Lloyd's most successful movies.

The Sin of Harold Diddlebock was Sturges' first project after leaving Paramount Pictures, where he had made his most popular films, but the film was not successful in its initial release. It was quickly pulled from distribution by producer Howard Hughes who took almost four years to re-shoot some scenes and re-edit the film,[3] finally re-releasing it in 1950 as Mad Wednesday – but the reception by the general public was no better the second time around.

Lloyd was never to star in another film, turning instead to production, and releasing compilation films featuring his earlier silent film work."

Here you have a show with Marcel Dadi et Jean-Félix Lalanne :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyHFLoO4TB4

Lalanne have learn to play all the songs of Dadi when he was 13 years old, they became very good friends, that's why they talk, laugh and make jokes during the show.
