Sálin hans Jón mín is one of the biggest names in Icelandic music, and probably the biggest when it comes to bands. The band achieved incredible things in its 30-year career, it was originally formed from a soul music project and was never meant to last longer than one summer at country balls, but in the following years it became one of the most popular bands in the country with countless big hits and a number of released albums. The soul played mostly at dance parties, but after the turn of the century it had developed in a new direction, where quality pop led, among other things, to for increased concerts and collaboration with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, the Reykjavík Gospel Choir and the Reykjavík Ensemble with stops at the Borgarleichús, establishing it as Iceland's most respected pop band. However, tension and conflict sometimes characterized the collaboration, and on the thirtieth anniversary year, it was decided to call it an end while people could still talk to each other...
...The beginning of the adventure can clearly be traced back to when Þorsteinn J. Vilhjálmsson, then a radio host at Bylgjuni and a journalist, called together some musicians to play music from the movie Blues Brothers at the Europa club in autumn 1987. They were Jón Ólafsson, keyboard player (Bítlavinafélagið, Possibillies etc. .), Guðmundur Jónsson guitarist (Kikk, Tíbet Tabú etc.), Birgir Bragason bass player (Birthmark, Galíleó etc.), John Collins singer, Pétur Grétarsson drummer (Smartband, Siðan skein sól etc.) and Stefán Hilmarsson singer (Sniglabandið et al.). Those friends played in this Blues Brothers program together with Elína Ólafsdóttir and Arnhilda Guðmundsdóttir students from the Business School, but in addition the aforementioned Þorsteinn and his friend Guðjón Reynisson sang a few songs.
