...Sálin worked on album recordings during the summer and autumn in parallel with ballroom dancing, as it was then planned that an album would be released before Christmas, Ástvaldur took part in these recordings and Jens when he came to the scene, but when the album was released, there was a completely changed band from Syngjandi sveittur, as they had the music develops with the four album tracks that had been released in the meantime, Jen's saxophone playing (and Ásgeir Steingrímsson's trumpet playing) on the album gave it a certain soul touch, but the music was primarily soul pop, as it has often been called. The band didn't play much during the fall, but did perform at a concert in Tunglina where foreign scouts saw the band play, but Steinar was in some expansion gear around that time and thought about introducing several bands (including Sálinn) to foreign markets...
...The disc was called Hvar ir draumurin? and was immediately well-received when it hit the market in mid-November on vinyl, cassette and CD (with the bonus track Ræfillinn), then the band was already back in full swing playing all over the country, e.g. in community centers such as Aratunga, Víkurröst, Stapanum and Bifröst, but also in the capital area for Reykjavík and local residents. The album immediately rose to second place on the sales list and by mid-December it was at the top, was there during Christmas, but then ended up in second place after Bubba Morthens - Nóttin longa in the battle for the best-selling album of the year, in around 13,000 copies. The title track Where is the dream? appeared on the Icelandic chart as the first song from the album and got to the top of the second place, and subsequently the songs Auður and Eltu mig oppi also appeared there, which enjoyed popularity, in fact, very many songs of the album received radio play, which was unusual.
The dream received excellent reviews in Morgunblaðin, DV and Vikunni and decently in the magazine Þjóðlífi, in Æskunn's popularity poll for the second year in a row, Sálin had a great advantage, was elected the most popular band, Stefán the most popular pop star and singer, Hvar er draumurin? the most popular album and its title track the most popular song. Then the album landed in third place in the selection of the album of the year according to the listeners of Rás 2.
At the turn of the year, Sálin hans Jóns mín played at a well-attended dance concert at Hotel Íslandi together with Siðan skein sol, but in the new year the group took a good break, as the members had had enough of spinning in the previous months. It wasn't until the beginning of March 1990 that the band started playing again with a dance party and at the same time started recording two new songs intended for the release of a compilation album for the summer. The two songs, Ég er á kafi and Ekki, were produced according to the same specification as before with Guðmund as the songwriter and Stefán as the lyricist, they were released in mid-June on Bandalåg 2 and, just like the band's other songs, were very popular during the summer. It should also be mentioned that videos were made for most of the songs on the Bandalaga album and they were released on VHS later that summer under the title Myndbandalag.
The soul warmed up for Kim Larsen and his band in Kaplakrika in the spring and also played at a big concert in Laugardalshöllinn together with other groups under the title Rokkskógar as well as the national tournament of UMFÍ and others, but the traditional summer tour around the country was also on the agenda. Then they played at balls in places like Sævangi, Sjallanum in Akureyri and Ísafirður, Flúðum, Hótel Akranesi, Sindrabæ, Njálsbúd and Egilsbúd, and then during the shopkeeper's weekend the band was together with many of the country's most popular bands in Húnaveri. The dances of the summer were advertised as midnight concerts, but the country's bands were at odds with the authorities over the value added tax that the commissioners wanted to collect from the dances. exempt from that tax.
In the autumn of 1990, the band slowed down after the prom in the summer, and in mid-October the Sálar team went on a good break to rest and at the same time the market, but by then Sálin had played in most of the country's clubhouses and much more than once in some places.
