...Þrumuvagninn became quite prominent in concerts for a while, played several times at SATT evenings and also at a birthday celebration on the occasion of FÍH's fiftieth anniversary in the spring, and actually appears on a double album that was released in that context.Around the same time, word got out that they were expecting an album from Þrumuvagnin, but the band had then signed a record deal with Stein. Recordings began in Hljóðrita in Hafnarfjörður in March under the direction of singer Eiðs Arnar, who also wrote all the songs and lyrics. At the beginning, it had been planned to record a five-song album, but when the publisher Steinar Berg heard the result, he decided to fill the LP, which later contained nine songs, and is of course considered the first heavy rock LP to be released in Iceland.
The album was released in the summer and bore the band's name. It received fair reviews in the magazine Samúel, Helgarpóstinum and Jens Guðmundsson's Poppbók, and good reviews in Morgunblaðin and Þjóðwillin. The album was widely compared to the music of Led Zeppelin, and not least Eiðs Arnar's singing with Robert Plant, and that stamp stuck with the singer for a long time. - Helgi J
