Thank you, Gyro. I always enjoy the single label retrospectives that you share.
Oh, and Gyro...
I'm always especially thrilled when the release dates are included!
@ JohnnyDiego
I went back and looked at your remarks and saw where you didn't remember where you got the Mills Brothers from, which is a shame since there is a Vol 6 out. It's not part of the boxset which the first 5 Vols apparently were but is a continuation of their chronology.

Wet Willie - Drippin' Wet '73 @320
This is the album to start with on Wet Willie, and their real best-of, a surging, forceful concert recording of white Southern soul and blues-rock at its best. The band holds its own alongside outfits like the Allman Brothers -- no, this isn't the kind of history-making set that At Fillmore East by the latter band constituted, but it is a great show presenting this group and its members at their very best. The playing is hard and muscular, the singing rich and expressive, and they have serious fun with numbers like "Red Hot Chicken" (stretched to ten minutes) and do a nice, laidback "Macon Hambone Blues," surrounded by crunchy renditions of pieces like "Airport." What's more, they switch effortlessly from a lean, guitar-centered blues-rock to a much funkier, sax-driven sound -- maybe it was that diversity that prevented Wet Willie from really breaking big outside of the Southeast. The vibes they were picking up from the audience on New Year's Eve at the Warehouse in New Orleans make this a compelling concert document. (Bruce Eder, Allmusic)

Rick Danko- Times Like These '00 @320
Times Like These, released posthumously, is Rick Danko's last studio album. There's a tendency for fans to under-appreciate the singer/bassist's later work, opting instead for some sepia-toned memory of the Ontario farm boy amidst his original Band colleagues in the '60s and '70s -- but that's only part of the story of a 40-year career. Later in life, Danko's voice, while remaining the distinctly mournful instrument of his youth, mellowed to equal parts milk and whiskey. Here, a less urgent and wiser artist wraps his pipes around his signature tune "This Wheel's on Fire," which is drawn out on both ends by elegant instrumental passages. This version of the song is a fitting coda to Danko's life, lingered over lovingly and masterfully by the Crowmatix with Band cohort Garth Hudson, a veritable one-man Fellini soundtrack on accordion. "Let the Four Winds Blow," a Fats Domino/Dave Bartholomew cover recorded live, showcases Levon Helm on harmonica and longtime Danko and Band associate Professor "Louie" on piano and vocals, rolling and stomping in the finest spirit of the Band. "All Our Past Times," a return to a song the artist co-wrote with Eric Clapton in 1976, is wistfully gorgeous and heart-wrenchingly appropriate. And a cover of The Grateful Dead's "Ripple" -- with Hudson and Helm once again making appearances -- is delivered with the rustic charm of a back porch session (albeit a highly skilled one). While the album can drip with sentimentality or sound too polished at times, ultimately Times Like These, co-produced by Danko and Professor "Louie" (aka Aaron Hurwitz), is a thoughtfully rendered reflection on a great musical life. Arty Hill - Another Lost Highway '11 @320
ANOTHER LOST HIGHWAY is Arty Hill's newest CD and it continues his string of nothing-short-of-outstanding music. This one contains Hill's usual - often in the same song - mix of rockabilly ("Halfway House"); rock and roll ("Blackwater Wildlife"); country shuffles ("Mae Dawn", "Victoria's Secret"); weepers ("Another Lost Highway"); and honky tonk (pretty much all of them). Hill's singing has never been better nor has his guitar work. Of special mention is "Omaha ICU", a song about a drug overdose; a subject you'll agree is not exactly a honky tonk staple.
Hill has a special talent for writing innovative lyrics, for example from "12 Pack Morning": "Sunrise like to burn me down, til a big blue Ribbon brought me around."
Or from "Another Lost Highway": "Down this road I'm goin', dyin' to make a deal,
Money does the drivin', I don't even hold the wheel."
I don't think you can beat that line.
And as always, the other musicians are perfect, and I want to give a special mention to Jack O'Dell, a terrific drummer who, based on my very limited contact with him, is a truly nice and genuine man.
If the music I've described here and the lyrics I've quoted appeal to you, buy this CD. (No Depression)

Shannon and The Clams - Gone by the Dawn '15 @320
Long-running Oakland garage pop trio Shannon and the Clams will follow up 2013's Dreams in the Rat House with yet another entry in their catalogue.
The group's forthcoming fourth LP is called Gone by the Dawn. The album was produced by Sonny Smith (of Sonny and the Sunsets fame) at his Tiny Telephone Recording studio in San Francisco.
According to a press release, this is the most emotionally charged Shannon and the Clams LP yet, as both Shannon Shaw and Cody Blanchard open up about recent breakups.
Further, it's said to be their most musically advanced, as a write-up promises "their skills are sharper, their chops are tighter and weirder and they've added new instruments to the mix."
Gone by the Dawn will drop on September 11 via Hardly Art. The album's "Corvette" arrives first, with a video available below.
In addition, Shannon and the Clams have announced an enormous North American tour that's heavy on Canadian dates. Check out the full itinerary below.

Thanks for the info on The Mills Brothers. I hadn't known that there was a Volume 6. It looks like most of the songs on Volume 6 are from 1939. After that they turned more pop oriented and kind of lost me, although I still have a few of their later records.
I don't have Chronological Vol. 6 but I betcha I will at some point soon.
Thanks for the shout-out to Wet Willie, gyro. Had the opportunity to see them in the late 60s when they were still performing asFox, and I thought then that with the right support, the band could have been a plausible American version of the Stones...but funkier...
Also, thanks for the Rick Danko share. I didn't know about this one and am glad to hear some new music from a great, great performer...
