BONUS 1 OF 10

THE LOVED ONES -The Price For Love '92 @320

First off, it should be pointed out that this band's a little misrepresented - the group isn't an oldies act, but a (now sadly defunct) 90’s band that looked at 60s rhythm-and-blues as its primary reference. Easy mistake to make, I guess, those Mod outfits are pretty convincing. This short-lived San Francisco outfit only recorded two albums, this debut and the very fine “Better Do Right”; the next year, before breaking up due to some members wanting to pursue a less bluesy direction. A great pity, as this album showcases a better-than-promising group handling a variety of R&B grooves with style and attitude. What's more, the band were totally in-the-pocket, I can't recall the last blues or R&B band that I heard with a guitarist so locked-in with the rhythm section. There are latin-styled rhumbas, straight-ahead shuffles, spare slow blues, they even give a big-tone guitar version of James Brown's “Lickin’ Stick”;. While their second release is slightly better realised, this album is recommended for fans of early-Fabulous Thunderbirds, the James Harman Band or early Rolling Stones. (Record Runner)

THE LOVED ONES - Better Do Right '93 @320

Wonderfully pure R & B by a very together group. The sound of this band is pure R&B. These guys convey a sense that they truly believe in and live their music. “You Better Do Right”; is all of the above.

Awesome bit of rhythm and blues. Surprising refreshing and raw in a time when most music was overproduced.

JON EMERY - Hillbilly Rock And Roll (Bear Family) '85 @320

Jon Emery's Austin roots go back to the mid 1970s when his Missouri Valley Boys Band settled here and became regulars at the Broken Spoke and at other country music clubs of that era. Since then, in addition to fronting his own bands, he has backed-up a wide variety of local and national acts.

Upon first hearing in 1976, Townsend Miller wrote, 'In my opinion, Jon Emery is the finest country singer to hit Austin since Willie Nelson.' Emery's singing and songwriting transcend any easy classification. His material is drawn as much from rock-a-billy and blues styles as from country, and he is widely recognized for branching out in different directions and taking risks.

For anyone interested in the late sixties music then The Loved One of that time were an Australian Band, one of the best R&B styles pop bands of the time. They only did one album, one EP. and about five singles. There complete output can be obtained on their album Magic Box.
