The Hollies - Changin Times (The Complete Hollies - January 1969-March 1973) @320

Next month sees the release of The Hollies: Changin’ Times, a new five-CD box set from Parlophone.

This collection includes all the albums and singles [and rare tracks] released from January 1969 to March 1973. Packaging comes in the form of a five-CD jewel case (probably ‘fat box’ style) with a 24-page booklet featuring sleeve notes by band member Tony Hicks.
Changin’ Times: The Complete Hollies Jan 1969 to March 1973 is out on 10 July 2015.

Parlophone is getting back on a carousel this July with the release of a new 5-CD box set from The Hollies.  Changin’ Times: The Complete Hollies January ’69 – March ’73 follows up the label’s 2011 collection The Clarke, Hicks & Nash Years: The Complete Hollies: April 1963 – October 1968.  The July 10 U.K. release collects every commercially-released album track and non-album single from the band recorded between January 1969 and March 1973, for a total of 92 songs (including some previously released rarities) over the course of six studio albums from Hollies Sings Dylan (1969) through the rare Out on the Road (1973).  No previously unissued material is included.

Jackson C. Frank - The Complete Recordings (2015) @320

2015 three CD set. While Jackson C. Frank's eponymous 1965 album and other material has enjoyed numerous official and unofficial reissues, Jackson C Frank: The Complete Recordings is the first to compile his entire recording career. The Complete Recordings contains a total of 67 tracks, 24 of which have never appeared before. Every song has been mastered or remastered, a number of them straight from the original, brittle reel-to-reels on which they were originally laid down. Plagued by tragedy with the most haunting music to show for it, Frank's life can be heard through his music, which has been covered by the likes of Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, Fairport Convention, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, and many others. While never fully recognized as one of the great musicians of the '60s, Frank clearly had his fans. Frank's recordings span four decades of a hard-lived life, and every experience, every trial, is reflected in his voice. If ever a person's individual journey could be traced through his music, it's Frank's, and The Complete Recordings is nothing less than a representative map of the artist's high points and deepest, most shadowed valleys. While the 1965 debut album has seen intermittent reissues, an expanded double-CD edition appeared in 2003 from Sanctuary, with 33 songs that had never appeared before. Jackson C Frank: The Complete Recordings contains a total of 67 tracks, including all the Sanctuary material, plus 24 more songs.

Clara Ward - In Memory of Willa Ward-Royster 1949-1958 (Gospel Friend)@320

You need to get your hands on this. There are so many great voices here. First, there's Clara Ward. Listen to her stretch out on a cut like "The Day is Past and Gone." You'll see why Ward ws one of the main influences on Aretha Franklin. A contralto for the ages. But then you throw in Marion Williams, a gospel singer whose range ran from low growls to notes way about high C. You can hear her staying an octave above most of the ensemble tunes. She takes a few solos--a great slow "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and then a cut like "I'll be There." Per Notini, the producer, does a great job with the selection and sound of these cuts that Clara made between 1949 and 1958. If you really like this one, do not miss the companion Gospel Friend cd, Wards "I Feel the Holy Spirit," in which the selection is taken from recordings done between 1949 and 1952. This cd may be better than the second one but I would be hard pressed to choose between them. Gospel Friend should be seen as a gift to the world--the music is that good. (Record Runner)

Clara Ward and the Famous Ward Singers were gospel music pioneers who, alongside great voices like Mahalia Jackson and Rosetta Tharpe, were responsible for making gospel an internationally celebrated music. The ensemble initially included Clara Ward’s mother Gertrude Ward, her sister Willa Ward-Royster, and varying other singers including powerhouse Marion Williams. The second volume in a series highlighting the important contributions of the Famous Ward Singers, this compilation does not feature all of the greatest hits such as “Surely God is Able,” but includes some of their strongest recordings made during the height of the groups’ career from 1949 to 1958. - See more at: http://blackgrooves.org/clara-ward-and-the-famous-ward-singers-in-memory-of-willa-ward-royster/#sthash.SdkG2RrN.dpuf

CHARLEY PRIDE – Four Charley Pride Albums [2CD] (2015) @320

Songs Of Pride...Charley That Is '68 - In Person '68

http://www18.zippyshare.com/v/tdYMQTXt/file.html

Charley Pride - The Sensational Charley Pride '69 - Just Plain Charley '70

http://www40.zippyshare.com/v/zzk2LQUM/file.html

Charley Pride’s second four albums onto two CDs: 1968’s Songs of Pride…Charley, That Is; In Person and The Sensational Charley Pride, both from 1969; and 1970’s Just Plain Charley. By this point, Pride established himself as a star and so RCA was willing to take some chances. Songs of Pride doesn’t rely on well-known tunes but rather contains a bunch of new songs, largely written by Jerry Foster and Bill Rice, songs that helped align Charley closer to the modern sound of country in 1968, while In Person demonstrates his in-concert charm and skill. Sensational and Just Plain Charley pick up on Songs of Pride and they’re both excellent examples of walking the line between modern sounds — the Bakersfield of Merle Haggard and the proto-outlaw of Kris Kristofferson — and the Music City machine, records that are enough of their time to evoke their era but classic enough to transcend it. This is Charley’s peak in many ways and it’s a pleasure to have them so easily available on this set.

Gyro --
Thank you for the Charley Pride. I had never heard of him until I met a guy from Pasadena, Texas in 1969. He was traveling around the country and pulled out a Country Charley Pride 45 from 1966, "Detroit City." I knew Bobby Bare's version well but Charley's record grabbed me from the very first guitar notes. And then the steel guitar gradually chiming in until Charley's vocals sealed it for me. I've been a big fan ever since.

The Charley Pride set is great. I still have 'Kiss an Angel Good Mornin' going 'round my brain once in a while, even after some 45 years. That says something. Thanks Gyro.

I do have the first Hollies box set, and I think we shared it here a long time ago - I'm not sure I have the patience or time right now to upload it again. Maybe somebody else does have the time?
