MARY WELLS "The Soulful Sound Of Mary Wells"

Mary Wells, born in Detroit in 1943, had intended to make her name behind the scenes as a songwriter but instead forged a brief but glittering career as the first 'Queen of Motown'. From humble beginnings as a 12 year old house cleaner, Mary scored numerous top 10 hits, earned a gold disc with label Motown, recorded with Marvin Gaye and toured with The Beatles. Enjoy two of her finest albums plus bonus tracks on this 2 disc set. (Allmusic)Mary Wells wasn't yet a polished vocalist when she first signed with Motown in the early '60s, and she later became the first performer to score a Number One single and Top Ten pop hit for the label. But that didn't happen with these songs, although they have an edge, toughness, and spark, that wasn't always evident in the slicker hits that Wells made. 9The Soul Detective)
Mary Wells place as the First Lady of Motown was well and truly confirmed in 1962, thanks in large part to the runaway success of the singles The One Who Really Loves You and You Beat Me To The Punch, b oth of which hit the Top Ten of the pop chart. Both were written by Smokey Robinson, the second in conjunction with fellow Miracle Ronnie White, and feature The Love-Tones, a male group who briefly offered the same kind of vocal accompaniment that The Andantes would later provide. Although there is no producer credit on the resulting album, it has the stamp of Smokey running all the way through like a stick of rock. Together, Mary and Smokey were a winning combination, one which would reach its peak with My Guy, but much of this album is of the same kind of calibre. Tighten Up Tighter - A Choice Collection of Funk 45s

http://www.discogs.com/Various-Tighten-Up-Tighter-A-Choice-Collection-Of-Funk-45s/release/1608858

When the history of the funk revival is written, Pure Records deserves at least its own chapter. The label was among the first (if not the very first) to compile and reissue long-last classics, rare bits, and dusty grooves for digital consumption, not only resurrecting an entire era of music but inspiring labels like BBE and Soul Patrol in the process. Tighten Up Tighter: A Choice Collection of Funk 45s is a textbook example of the Pure aesthetic, assembling 14 deep funk rarities so densely packed with rattling basslines, wah-wah guitars, scorching horns, and swaggering beats that the whole package verges on self-parody. And if any of these cuts seem familiar, you may be spending too much time scouring the bins: highlights include Piranha Sounds' "La Turbie Piranhienne," the Explorers' "Countdown to Soul," Hindai Butts' "In the Pocket," and Michael Liggins' "Loaded to the Gills." -Allmusic

El Rego - ‘El Rego’ (Daptone)

http://www.discogs.com/El-Rego-Et-Ses-Commandos-El-Rego/release/3266833

First heard by many on Analog Africa’s 2008 compilation African Scream Contest, Benin’s Theophile Do Rego looms large among the lost giants of West African funk. Formed in 1966, El Rego and his Commandos created the template others would exploit more successfully: a wildly inspired blend of tribal rhythms, wah-wah guitar, fatback bass lines, and the heated unnnhs and yeeowws that typify James Brown funk. So “Feeling You Got” sounds like a rougher, rawer version of Archie Bell on this collection of 45s (but dig that crazy accordion!). “Vive Le Renouveau” advocates revolution (ironically) via funereal desert blues. And “Cholera” treats a deadly disease with funky cold sweat. -spin.com

Guys,
The new style. Is File-Upload.net better than Zippyshare and WeTransfer? Files are stored for 1 year. I hope this will work well for everyone.

Thanks Gyro for MW!!
Cheers Daniel, from Spain...

File Upload offers great speed (about the same as We-Transfer?) for me, and you've packed these two files with some remarkable reggae. Many thanks, Jillem! :)

@ Jillem: File-Upload works great for me! I couldn't d/l using
WeTransfer (bloody IE settings), but perfectly with this new one.
Thanks a lot! Cheers Daniel, from Spain...

Jillem - File Upload works great, especially if it hold up for a year. I also love We Transfer, but if that only lasts for a few days it's a hassle for the uploader.

The Doctor's "Best Dressed Chicken In Town" is one of the CLASSIC reggae songs!!! Great cover on the LP too.

I bought it in 82 or so at a reggae record store in DC, a serious experience.

I really would have loved to hear King Tubby in fine style - the King Tubby Special - Cd i have and it´s fantastic, but sadly the File Upload-link only offers me downloads of different software. Thank you Jillem for all your tasteful contributions - you could make me happy if you offer it also with WeTransfer. Or maybe someone can give me advice to the hidden secrets of File Upload.....greetings from germany

Thanks Jillem, File Upload works fine once you realise which download to press! Also scary pic but not as scary as Johnny D!!

I too am anonymous.

Hey, Jillem may be providing us with lots of great music which I do appreciate, but today his "Tighten Up Tighter" download provided me with a ton of malware! This is not cool. Please stick to the known evil of Zippyshare which I know how to deal with.

Thank you for all of the boss reggae and dub shares, Jillem!

I don't know if it's an issue with File Upload or not, but the King Tubby's Special 1973-1976 CD did not come through for me (broken file); otherwise, super fast download and the year storage is excellent for uploaders.

Gyro - The Mary Wells albums are a real treat. I think she's my favorite of the bunch (60's black Motown-type female singers). The stereo "Compact Command Performances" posted on TZ a couple of weeks ago has been played in my house several times over. Looking forward to blasting this one.

RYP - Thanks for running this ship!
