We hardly need tell you about this one – especially since you've been ringing our phone off the hook for it since it was first announced! The set is a monster compilation of rare funky material, put together by the legendary Keb Darge, and the enigmatic Josh Davis (known to most of the world as DJ Shadow!) You'll be hard pressed to find most of this stuff elsewhere, as it's culled from the personal collections of these rare funk specialists – and the set is lovingly packaged with the same high level of care that you'd expect from BBE. Titles include "Butter That Popcorn" by The RDM Band, "Party Time" by The Masters, "Let's Do It Today" by The US, "Do It Again" by Deep Heat, "The World" by Sandi & Mateus, "Back Talk" by Second Amendment Band, "Can't Stop Now" by Mr. Magic, "Tell Me" by Ricky Calloway, and "Mr. Machine" by The Chefs. Very nice, very hard, very funky – you know the deal! (Out of print.) © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Ann Peebles - The HI Records Singles A's and B's (flac)
http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-hi-singles-as-bs-mw0000661455
Ann Peebles' long and successful career at Hi Records, eclipsed only by Al Green, saw her reaching the R&B charts many times during the '70s, and entering the Top 40 in 1973 when "I Can't Stand the Rain" became her brightest moment (and biggest hit). The Hi Singles A's & B's collects all of her singles material from that era, 1969 through 1981, including every one of her chart hits -- the most popular being "Part Time Love," "I Pity the Fool," "Breaking Up Somebody's Home," "I Can't Stand the Rain" -- plus far more material for those who want to dig a little deeper on Memphis' Queen of Soul. The two-disc set works chronologically through her career, presenting the original B-sides close to their flips, and since Peebles' long-players of the '70s weren't as consistent as Green's, The Hi Singles A's & B's is one of the best ways to survey her career. -Allmusic

Home in Your Heart (1992, 2cd) (flac)
http://www.allmusic.com/album/home-in-your-heart-the-best-of-solomon-burke-mw0000274097
Without question, Solomon Burke is the most unfairly overlooked singer of soul's golden age. This definitive double CD proves it, including all of his best recorded for the Atlantic label between 1962 and 1968: the insanely accusatory "The Price," the Nashville Sounding "Just Out Of Reach," the romantically devout "Hanging Up My Heart," and more than three dozen others, all of them as Wilson Pickett-hard or, when it's called for, Sam Cooke-sweet as needed, and always drawing on the intense emotional testifying Burke had refined as a boy preacher. --David Cantwell

... Additionally, the 16th song is a true diamond among the R&B treasures here -- the June 1968 single "Soul Meeting" cut by the Soul Clan, which consisted of Burke, Arthur Conley, Don Covay, Ben E. King, and Joe Tex, the super-session product of a short-lived experiment in raising money for the black community. This is the only appearance of this Don Covay-authored track on CD, and makes this release essential even for those who already own the 1992 double-CD set Home In Your Heart.

Jack Ruby Hi-Fi (Clappers Black Slavery Days) (flac)
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Jack-Ruby-Hi-Fi/release/585849
Jack Ruby's now legendary Hi Fi album on NY label Clappers was recorded in King Tubby's Kingston studios with key performances from some of the greatest reggae and dub artists. Ken Booth, Black Disciples, Lennox Miller, The Revealers.
Long lost classic reissue time. What we have here is a full showcase-style dyed in the wool stormer. Ruby is the infamous producer linked to the Ocho Rios - Sound of Saint Anns, best known perhaps for his production associations with Burning Spear around the start of their Island career, Justin Hinds of the Dominoes, as well as numerous high calibre artists, think The Gaylads, Big Youth, King Tubby, Errol Thompson and some of the artists featured here, Ken Booth, Black Disciples and his long term studio associates. “Hi-Fi” is an album originally appearing on Brooklyn’s little known but genre-breaking Clappers label, “a weapon without compromise” as their chairman once put it, a label which ushered the transition of reggae into early new york dancehall and beyond, spawning early crossover hip-hop classics from the likes of Brother D and Silver Fox. Here Ruby focusses on four vocals segued into four full length dubs: Ken Booth’s voice has to be one of the most divine instruments in all music if not reggae, ‘Peace Time’ rides a delicious guitar line – Booth is in fine fettle on a lyric for universal peace , and the whomping ‘Khomeini skank’ version establishes this somewhere at the turn of the seventies. Lennox Miller’s take on Delroy Wilson’s alltime big one ‘Better Must Come’ is a belter – lively drummatical version and a wicked Jah Coller deejay version, 12 minutes plus of sublime reggae. Usual high quality Auraluxx job, mastered from vinyl, but this has resulted in the fantastic warmth and intimacy of these timeless recordings. Single vinyl sooncome. Large. -Boomkat
Justin Hinds And The Dominoes - Travel With Love (1984) (flac)
http://www.discogs.com/Justin-Hinds-The-Dominoes-Travel-With-Love/release/2284549
These songs were recorded between 1982 and 1984, and feature The Wailers' rhythm section of Carlton (drums) and Aston (bass) Barrett. Tyrone Downie, the Wailers' keyboard player, also makes appearance. The songs were recorded at tuff gong studios and mixed at aquarius.
Although Justin Hinds & Dominoes are best remembered for their classic cuts from the ska and rocksteady eras, their recordings during the roots era and beyond were equally crucial. The two albums they recorded for Island in the late '70s were deleted so fast that most fans are barely aware of these masterpieces. Thankfully, the Nighthawk label stepped into the breach and brought the trio back to the studio for the phenomenal Travel With Love album. The fabulous backing band creates a hefty roots rhythm supplied by the Barrett Brothers; sumptuous brass parts from Tommy McCook, Felix "Headley" Bennett, and Bobby Ellis; and Earl "Chinna" Smith's gorgeous guitar leads accompanied by Bingy Bunny's expert riffs. With taut percussive elements and quietly riffing keyboards, the result is sumptuous roots with a decidedly rural atmosphere. The title track is an oldie but goodie, originally cut as a single for Duke Reid in 1970, a sweet, simple song that's lost none of its power over the years. "Weeping Eyes" dates back to this same year and was overseen by Sonia Pottinger. It, too, was a guileless number that's further enhanced by the richer arrangement it's given here, plumped up by Smith's twangy guitar lead. Styles may change, but Hinds' themes and lyrics, virtually all allegories reflecting his strong Rastafarian beliefs, have remained unaffected by musical shifts, as has his heartfelt delivery. His pen remains as subtle and supple as ever, and even as he tells listeners to "Get Ready to Rock Steady," Hinds turns the dance into a lesson in righteous living. He follows "The Rainbow" back to his rural home and delivers up an eloquent tribute to country living, paying homage to Jah for it all. The album exquisitely ends with the transcendental "Meditation," where Hinds ponders about the state of the world and mankind. It's a gentle but effervescent album filled with thoughtful lyrics, lovely melodies, and gorgeous harmonies. It's evident the musicians were spellbound by Hinds' songs, and the arrangements and production enhance the delicate quality of the pieces. In 1984 it was far removed from the ever-more electronic-driven Jamaican scene, and all the more glorious for remaining true to its roots soul. -Allmusic

Dear Madman, You have experienced just about the worst thing life has to offer. I hope and pray that you and your family will heal and become whole again. It looks like you are a beloved person on this wonderful site, and the bloggers here will do everything they can to help you on that long, arduous healing journey.
Glad to have you back, Madman. Time alone can not heal the pain and hurt you have suffered. You need the strength that I hope you can find from wherever you seek it.
And if it helps even a little, you've made me happy. I love Nancy Wilson.
Special thanks to Northern Madman for these shares. Some of these ladies of soul are new to me.
I hope you are holding yourself together, and finding the strength to carry on.

Big tanx to NSMM. You have good taste in Soul womens.
I went through the loss of a loved one in 2013 and it still hurts, but I found that by keeping busy with my music collection, it helped to at least temporarily take my mind off the pain.
Best of luck to you.
