The Highway QC's - Highway QC’s/Jesus Is Waiting (1960) @320
This two-fer from features a pair of out of print LPs by the Highway Q.C.'s on one compact disc: Highway QC's and Jesus Is Waiting. Each of the 24 tracks has a continuity dominated by traditional spirituals and modern gospel. Highlights Include "Working on the Building," "Count Your Blessings," "I'll See Jesus Too," and "Amazing Grace." (All music)
The Highway QC's belong the top groups in gospel history, along with the Swan Silvertones, The Souls Stirrers, Five Blind Boys of Alabama and The Caravans. This music, recorded in the early 60's, features smooth and soulful vocals over a tight harmonic background.
The group is mentioned as the group Sam Cooke started singing in. I enjoy listening to them no less than to Cooke's recordings with the Soul Stirrers, and maybe more...
Their style is original - you cant mistake their sound for anybody else's.
The CD contains two LP's.
If you like gospel, soul, or even Jazz and Blues - I say you can’t go wrong with this one. (The Gospel Truth)

Bert Jansch - It Don't Bother Me (1965, Remastered 2015) @320
It Don't Bother Me is Jansch's second solo album, released in 1965. It also marks his first two collaborations with guitarist John Renbourn (they'd later form the fantastic guitar nucleus of the Pentangle) on "My Lover" and "Lucky Thirteen." Most reviews of It Don't Bother Me refer to the album as a repeat or continuation of his first. In all reality, though, most of Bert Jansch's albums are continuations of his first (give or take a few traditional tunes and the presence or absence of a rhythm section), which is just alright for most of his fans; inimitable fingerpicked acoustic guitar anchoring earnest originals often accompanied by Jansch's gruff but listenable vocals. Most listeners are so intoxicated by Jansch's guitar work (myself included) that this album's similarity to his debut isn't a reason not to buy it. (Elliot Knapp. The Guardian)

C.W. Stoneking - C.W. Stoneking (2000) @320
Neo-blues singer, songwriter, and guitarist (he also plays Dobro and tenor banjo) C.W. Stoneking (Chris to his close friends) was born in 1974 in Katherine, Australia, to American parents who split up shortly after he was born. Spending most of his time with his father, who taught in the back country settlements, Stoneking was raised in the Aboriginal community of Papunya until he was nine years old, after which he relocated with his father to Sydney.
He began playing guitar at 11 years old and began playing with local bands by the time he was 13, including a stint in the Woodford Cajun-Zydeco Hot Tamale Band led by Peter Lucas. While a student at Balmain High School in Sydney, Stoneking stumbled across some of his father's country blues tapes and was soon well under the spell of 1920s and 1930s blues artists like Blind Willie McTell, Memphis Minnie, Leroy Carr, Big Bill Broonzy, and others, a genre and era that were to form the backbone of his consequent creative vision. Moving to Melbourne in 1997, Stoneking began playing as a solo blues artist, privately releasing an album of covers entitled C.W. Stoneking a year later in 1998. He also formed a band, C.W. Stoneking & the Blue Tits, that same year, only to disband it a year and a half later after the death of mandolin player Charlie Bostock. (A bootleg album of the group, usually entitled C.W. Stoneking & the Blue Tits and drawn from a live radio performance at Melbourne's 3CR radio station, has been in loose circulation since 1999.)
Stoneking returned to playing solo, performing original compositions that echoed the 1920s and 1930s blues, ragtime, calypso, jazz, and hillbilly recordings he so treasured. He recorded an album of his own songs performed in his adopted style, King Hokum, in 2005, which garnered tremendous critical praise when it was released in Australia in 2006. The Swiss label Voodoo Rhythm picked up the album for European release a year later in 2007. An utterly fascinating and unique musician, Stoneking began touring with a new band, the Primitive Horn Orchestra, which included Kirsty Fraser on additional vocals, Ros Jones on tuba, Ed Farlie on trumpet, and Kynan Robinson on trombone.

THE BARBARIANS
Another Nuggets-era one-hit wonder, they were brief darlings of the legendary Laurie Records with their proto-punk hit “Are You A Boy Or Are You A Girl?”, and released only one album during their short three year run. As was the style of the time, they cover many of the big hits of the day but succeed in playing enough original songs to pull them out of the pack a bit. In fact, their originals are the strongest tracks on the album. This Sundazed reissue includes the A & B sides of their extremely rare first 7”.

THE BOOTS
The Boots were from Germany but played British Invasion-style garage beat and R&B blasters, with a handful of slow soulful psych-blues tossed in for good measure. Their debut album is mostly, if not completely, comprised of cover songs but they manage to bring a fresh approach to most compositions and expand their source material beyond the all-too-common Stones and Beatles hits of the day, paying homage to Slim Harpo, The Shangri-Las, and Wilson Pickett as well. This expanded remaster adds a couple of old 7”-only mixes and two live cuts as bonus (of course, these are all cover songs also).

DEAD MOON Live
Released earlier this year but recorded back on April 16, 1993 at The Satyricon, a landmark music club and dive-bar in Portland’s underground punk scene. An incredible recording (obviously taken through the soundboard) documenting an incendiary performance in front of an adoring audience. The club itself is not a large venue, and the intimate concert setting is evident in the energy flowing electric from the stage. The fade-ins and –outs between tracks can make for an awkward listen, and I do wish the between-song banter was included, but the blazing set more than makes up for the short-comings in the final editing room.
