Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band "The Mirror Man Sessions" 1971

Excellent stuff, heavily extended jams, that paved the way for bands such as The Fall to run with the baton. Great as these sessions are, this is more for listening to as background music, as it sounds like the Captain feeling his way. Essential for hardcore Beefheartians. - kaypea
For me as an old fan of archaic blues like Bukka White, Howling Wolf, Sunny Boy Williamson et.al. is sure, that nobydy will get to know what the Captain & his Magic Band were prodigously capable in this field. In the Mirror Man Sessions already them are going out of the old blues forms, especially extending the usual song durance with these long tunes especially Tarotplane. That's why the effect will be "magic" 'cause setting you in state of trance hypnotically ! Nevertheless I like their later more usual songs in Clear Spot, Spotlight Kid and following albums as much, may be more! - Hegelson
