Vonbrigði "Kakófónia" 1983

...Those friends didn't play much publicly to begin with, they spent a long time in the rough and tumble with practice accommodation, for a while they shared accommodation in Álftanesin with Þeysuri, but it was a long way for them to leave Breiðholtin, as they were then far from reaching driving test age, the lack of instruments was also a hindrance, but it was nothing unique in the punk scene, and they made up for it with their creativity and experimentation...
...In the summer of 1982, the foursome went to a recording studio and recorded four songs there, and around the same time they played with the British band Comsat angels, who held a concert here. The band also played together with the band Þey at a concert and tested new material, but then had to stop rehearsing and playing for a while when they lost their rehearsal space. The album was released in November by Grammsinn, the members themselves were not too happy with the result, but it did receive decent reviews in Helgarpóstinum, less so in Morgunblaðin.
When the band got to a new training facility at Rauðavatn, they started again and played a few concerts during the winter, the poetess Didda occasionally came up with them and performed poetry, and other bands in a similar spirit often performed with them. Journalists often tried to define the band's music and i.a. the music was talked about as the voice of pessimism on the one hand and that it had a flavor of the attitude of the youth on the other, most people were content to just talk about new wave.
In the spring of 1983, the Vonbrigða team went to Hljóðrita in Hafnarfjörður and recorded seven songs in twenty-five hours. Árni and Gunnar will have mostly written the basics of the songs, but the others added later, Didda helped them a bit with the lyrics, but Jóhann also wrote some lyrics. The album was then released in late summer under the title Kakófónía, and the band then went full on promoting it, playing mostly in the capital area but also at the Sæluviku festival in Skagafjörður, together with other new wave bands, but punk had almost come to an end by then, just over a year after Rokk in Reykjavík was premiered.

Cacofonía received good reviews in Helgarpóstinum, Æskunn and Jens Kr's Poppbók. but the album, together with the four-song one that had been released the previous year, are both sought-after collectors' items and sell for high prices among collectors, since the circulation of albums at that time was usually small. Around this time, the partners signed a record deal with the British publishing company Shout records, and the album was also released there...to be continued - Helgi J / 09/05/2019
