Marty Stuart
John Marty Stuart (born September 30, 1958) is an American country and bluegrass music singer, songwriter, and musician. Active since 1968, Stuart initially toured with Lester Flatt, and then in Johnny Cash's road band before beginning work as a solo artist in the early 1980s. His greatest commercial success came in the first half of the 1990s on MCA Records Nashville. Stuart has recorded over 20 studio albums, and has charted over 30 times on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. His highest chart entry is "The Whiskey Ain't Workin'", a duet with Travis Tritt. Stuart has also won five Grammy Awards out of 16 nominations. He is known for his combination of rockabilly, country rock, and bluegrass music influences, his frequent collaborations and cover songs, and his distinctive stage dress. Stuart is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry and Country Music Hall of Fame.

Here's two albums recorded and released in 1973, and from Scandinavia. The percussionist Anthony Rebop Kwaku Baah was born in Ghana but moved to Sweden in about 1970, where he met Steve Winwood & Traffic after a gig, in 1971 he joined the band and played with them to the end, then he hooked up with the german krautrockers Can, worked with them on their last three albums. This 1973 album is full of afrobeat, jazz fusion and groovy funk and rock with seedish musicians. The saxophonist Eero Koivistionen is one of Finlands biggest jazz musicians of all time, here he mix jazz-rock-fusion with funk in a very groovy way.

SENTIMENTAL EDUCATION
When I first read Gustave Flaubert’s gorgeously melancholic Sentimental Education, I was struck by how modern it felt for something written in 1869 (and taking place in the 1840’s.) His protagonist, Frédéric, feels like the original Emo poster child from which all young, disillusioned and weepy icons have sprung. From Morrissey and the Smiths to Belle & Sebastian, that kind of wistfully sad voice dominates Sentimental Education from start to finish, portraying a young man who recognizes the shallowness of the society he’s a part of but, unlike the angry and proactive Hamlets of this world, still yearns to be included. The fact that he can commit to neither one way of life or another leaves him in a permanently depressed state that becomes part of his identity.
The book remains so relevant in today’s modern world that it’s no wonder French filmmaker Alexandre Astruc decided to adapt it into a film, updating the setting to then-contemporary 1960’s France. But L’Éducation Sentimentale is a strange beast- it keeps all the surface story points of the novel without bothering to include any of Frédéric’s internal monologue. Of course, what works in novels doesn’t always work on film, and a film basically narrated by an unhappy and indecisive protagonist would be a tough film to sit through, but without Frédéric’s cynical voice to carry you through, all you’re left with is a bunch of people having affairs without much reflection.
At least, that’s what it seems like at first. Frédéric is a student of Charles, staying with him and his wife Catherine. They are friends with a mysterious man named Didier, who is married to Anne. Frédéric falls in love with Anne, who eventually falls in love with him, which you’d think would be fine since Didier is cheating on her anyway with a model named Barbara, whom Catherine pushes onto Frédéric to distract him from his Anne obsession, because, come to find out, Catherine has fallen for Frédéric as well. Got that?
The film is interesting for a couple of reasons. One is how little it bothers to explain anything- you spend half the film trying to figure out these relationships and what the meaning is between them. The dialogue is stilted, flat, straight. Everyone is beautiful; the French bourgeoisie seemingly has it all, doesn’t work much, goes out at night and spends the days on hunts… a life of leisure that leaves them all completely bored and unfulfilled, resorting to affairs to fill their enormous existential holes. Only Frédéric seems to notice; he abhors it all and wants to be Anne’s knight in shining armor, but neither of them have the power to break out of the system they belong to. Besides, for all his chivalrous sentiments, the guy somehow ends up hooking up with three women during the course of one movie. Like some men you might know, Frédéric talks a good existential game, but in the end isn’t that different than any other guy.

WALLY K..I think fake 320 is when someone downloads a file of, say 128 mbps, and then redoes it to 320...when everyone knows that you can't turn a 128 into a 320 or Flac...hope you can die satisfied now!!, regards, JAY

I think the problem with fake 320 etc, goes back when we first started ripping discs and low bitrates were needed because nobody had large drives then. When we had Trees, meaning getting discs in the post, with lots of albums on dvd's. Someone would burn an LP onto cd, then pass it on not knowing what the bitrate was. Then someone decodes it to flac or mp3 and so on down the line.
I've enjoyed listening to music for over 60 years, I don't care much for high bitrates or low ones, it's all music. I don't have a pair of 24-96 ears, just the normal ones.
I really don't think anyone makes fake 320 or Flac on purpose, it's just the nature of trading before downloading direct from the net became a thing.
If a thing you want costs you nothing, please don't complain about the quality!

Well said. I remember when hard drives where that small. I'm pre mobile phone generation.
I guess us older Katz burnt stuff at 128 if we were lucky.
I'm guessing that most of the fake upgrades come from cd company's using the low bit rate old burns as they did not have the master tapes or the 78rpm / 45rpm records them selfs.
But used them to make money. I know some of my low quality rips are on bear family issues Etc. (Who even claimed to have the copyright LOL.)
Some of the old stuff is rare & really hard to find a Mint unplayed copy.
Then others converting these cd's to 320 mp3 or flac without knowing that the cd's the off are low rate.that has been upscaled.
Keep sharing if its rare.

One could add a few things. If someone is complaining about a low bitrate he really means: Have you really looked on the usual places (myzuka, myfreemp3, free-mp3-download.net, youtube or wherever you usually get your stuff from, if there are better versions available? Or do you share your old stuff again and again? Sometimes it's faster and better to do a new search than to blow up all the old tracks.
There are people who can hear the difference. F.ex. yesterday Gyro shared a compilation of 'The Bristols' on the mainpage. There was one album included that I didn't have and it was ripped at 320. But others (that I have at 320) were not. So I was able to compare. And it's just a personal impression (or my ears): My version sounds a lot better.
In the end, a 192 bitrate track can sound better if the original was recorded in a first class studio and a good software was used for ripping, compared to a 320 track, ripped with old or bad software from a track that was originally recorded in a kitchen or garage studio. At least studio facilities of the '60's weren't as good as in the 70's, which weren't as good as in the 80's which weren't.....
At least, some of the very old stuff, recorded in the 40's or 50's... you can do, whatever you want, if you don't have the original master tapes and if you don't have a studio with all modern digital facilities, it would never sound good to our fastidious ears.
The whole "fake 320" thing strikes me as nonsense. I have excellent hearing for my age, thanks to early training on hearing protection - but I have never found a "fake 320" file.
To find the actual bitrate of an MP3 file, load it up in an audio editor like Audacity, select a high pitched bit and check the spectrum: FLAC goes all the way up to 20 kHz, generally considered the limit of human hearing. MP3 sound "rolls off" below 20 kHz, that's the cost of high compression - and the highest pitched tones fade or vanish, depending on how much compression is used. Here's the cut-off numbers I got when experimenting with LAME and Audacity:
FLAC - 20 kHz
MP3:
320 - 19.5 kHz
256 - 19.25 kHz
192 - 19 kHz
160 - 18 kHz
128 - 17.5 kHz
Needless to say, transcoding a 128 kbps file to 320 kbps doesn't bring back any lost sound.
I don't recall ever running into a shared MP3 file that was advertised as 320 kbps but was really re-encoded from a lower bitrate - or a FlAC file that was transcoded from an MP3 original. That's just not a thing, as far as I know.
Isao Tomita's ground breaking electronic 1974 recording of Snowflakes Are Dancing includes a fair amount of very high range sounds. It's really astounding music - Tomita used the foundation Robert Moog and Wendy Carlos bulit as a launch pad and aimed for the stars: Mission accomplished: This you gotta hear, at any decent bitrate...

I'm going back about 7-8 years ago, maybe longer, but didn't we undergo an extensive examination of mp3 variations, with many examples posted over a period of weeks, in differing formats and quality and much discussion, asking RYMers to compare the various bit rates, and the conclusion seemed to be that there really wasn't much difference to be found? It's all a bit fuzzy, but I remember that the results were surprising to many.
