…and now for something completely different! 1985 - 2023

These fucking politicians, warlords and religious... They don't know that they are as superfluous as telephone disinfectors and hairdressers! - RYP

We have a first entry each day that is a picture or a video, and only in that entry you can place your music links and requests (NO ALBUMS RELEASED IN 2021 AND AFTER, AND A DAILY LIMIT OF 3 ALBUMS AND NO REQUESTS FOR FLAC OR OTHER LOSSLESS, IF YOU WANT FLAC, BUY THE ALBUM)! Here you can say what you like, unless it's offensive, racist or discriminatory! Please keep your language polite and respectful. All other official posts will only allow comments related to the official posts and such. That way it will keep things much more organized and tidy. Enjoy! RYP and Gyro1966

Months ago, I wrote something about German Rock and the sound of the cities. In the 70's, Berlin was an attraction point for young men from West Germany. When moving to West-Berlin you're not drafted by the army. Logically, many went. Among them were many musicians. So Berlin wasn't just famous for the Berlin school of Electronics (Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream), but all genres of Rock. The electronic, psychedelic and spacy sound of many bands was a result of having an individual concept, different from the UK and US-mainstream. And it was due to the fact that German musical history was poisoned by Nazi times.

But it was in Berlin (and Cologne) that young musicians remembered that there were artists and music in the 'roaring Twenties' and discovered some pearls of the past, like the music of Friedrich Hollaender, Kurt Weill and others.

A younger band, discovering these giants of the past, is 'Nylon'. If you like the Humpe-sisters, Annette and Inga, you may like 'Nylon', with female vocals by Lisa Bassenge.

Here they are with their special mixture of New Wave and Chansons:

@Today's video...
Ha, yesterda I accidently came across the 'Hurry Sundown' video. I knew that Bubble Puppy had a big hit with 'Hot Smoke & Sassafras' and I knew that I have an album. But I had to look if 'Hurry Sundown' was among those files. And it was. O.K., here is (with lots of bonus):

Bubble Puppy (USA) - A Gathering of Promises, 1969, rem. 2008
https://www.imagenetz.de/MTNpY

Signing Nick St. Nicholas of Steppenwolf as a manager, Bubble Puppy moved to Los Angeles. Their name was changed to Demian (after Herman Hesse's 1919 novel, at the suggestion of their manager's wife); this was to avoid contractual difficulties with their previous record company but also because the former name appeared to link them with Bubblegum music. Here they are as:

Demian (USA) - st. album, 1970

Slade asked for Jamaican Serenades Vol. 31 and beyond.... I have Vols. 1 to 49 apart from Vol. 48 which if it exists, I have never seen so if anybody has it... hint! hint!

These vinyl compilations started to appear in the mid noughties and were put together by a number of different reggae collectors who frequented the Blood & Fire chat rooms back in the day. I picked these up on the DC++ reggae hubs around the same time. The premise was to put together compilations of jamaican instrumentals, all with a slightly melancholic feel...

Here's a link to Vols. 31, 32 and 33. The early editions were at 192 bitrate although some of these later volumes occasionally hit 256 or thereabouts... the height of extravagance at the time..,

@Charlie,
Thanks for reposting Nat Cole & Venuti for Mike. A request came in from Andrmine for Mary Lou Williams. Her best work had already been posted by Tad (CC 630, 814, 1021, 1050, 1260). If you downloaded any of these, could you repost them for Andrmine.
Also, if you’re planning on reposting any other from Tad’s batch, please hold off until the end of April. I’ll be away for 3 weeks and won’t be posting anything. That way, old & new Chronos won’t be running concurrently.
Thanks

@ivankosmos:
Thanks Ivan. I didn't know about your blog. Good you placed a link in TZ-RYP. I think I've downloaded all the female singers and foreign (non USA and non UK) beat from the 60's I could find. I'm glad I found re-ups since 204. Any chance you will be placing re-ups from 0-204? Even if you wouldn't: thanks for everything I could find.

@BigGray

Be thankful that there is some tagging. I've downloaded a large number of files recently (not from here) with no tagging at all, apart from Track 1, Track 2 etc.

It's part of the price one pays when getting things for free.

P.S. If you want to pretend that you are Gaius, at least have the intelligence to spell his name right.

Thanks Vin for Erroll Garner and sut for the Jamaican Serenades comps. Good to see you popping up on TZ again sut, your shares are always most welcome. Was you planning on posting the remaining Jamaican Serenades?
