Here's a reggae/rocksteady act from Netherlands, and just as the title says it's a reggae/rocksteady festivus from 2015, but their mono recorded album actually sounds like it was recorded in 1969. Amazing album that would cheer everybody up.

Here's a fantastic and a bit overlooked rocksteady album from 1970 by vocalist Delano Stewart, a Kingston singer who released his first single when he was only fifteen years old. A very sweet and groovy album, produced by Pottinger and released by High Note Records.

@Vin. Thank you so much for all your CC contributions. There have been some fantastic discoveries for me, particularly the early Louis Jordan sets. My taste does go back to say Beiderbecke, but as you say maybe that is beyond the remit of this blog. In terms of what's left, I will accept whatever you decide to do. If there are any Red McKenzie/Mound City Blowers sets then I would be delighted to see them. And I would always welcome anything with Lester Young, Errol Garner, Teddy Wilson etc. Once again thank you for your contributions, and I look forward to your future posts whether they are CCs or other.

A different take on Surfbeat, surely!

BIMHUIS TV Presents: BRUUT! with ANTON GOUDSMIT
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9X0IP5AiFc

Roaring sax, steaming guitars and thundering drums: let’s go surfin’![Album]

Maarten Hogenhuis alto & tenor saxophone, Folkert Oosterbeek organ, Anton Goudsmit guitar, Thomas Rolff double bass, Felix Schlarmann drums

Jazz sensation BRUUT! and guitar whirlwind Anton Goudsmit ride the waves together with the surf sound of the sixties, which has always remained cool. Hits by Dick Dale, The Beach Boys and The Ventures are dusted off and supplemented with original compositions and themes known from, for example, Dolly Parton or the series Narcos.

BRUUT! plays groovejazz that you can’t sit still to. This fantastic foursome has conquered venues all over the world, from Tokyo to Ouagadougou. BRUUT joins forces with the guitar giant of the lowlands, known for his untamable sound in bands such as The Ploctones and New Cool Collective.

@Ritchie

Do I say bad things about people? Well, if someone (like you) or other trolls unprovoked attack me (just because you don't like me, and seems to have been obsesssed by me), of course I reply in kind and question you (and the other trolls). What is the problem?
I don't understand how you can bother with me and insult me in post after post. Get a life, before your life is over, old man.

Vin thanks for Mezz. You have made my night.
Mezzrow's autobiography; 'Really the Blues' is pretty much the best book on the jazz scene in that period. It's a real eye-opener.
Read it and you'll see why I said that Satchmo's earlier work was much more influential than his later work.

[Milton Mesirow was ethnically and religiously Jewish, and was raised in Chicago. His wife, Johnnie Mae, was a black Baptist. They had one son, Milton Mesirow, Jr. According to the younger Mesirow, the surname "Mezzrow" was a "pen name" of his father's. In an interview with the New York Times in 2015, "Mezz Jr." told a reporter, "My father put me in a shul, and my mother's side tried to make me a Baptist. So when I'm asked what my religion is, I just say 'jazz.'"

The family lived in Harlem, New York, where Mezzrow declared himself a "voluntary Negro" and was listed as Negro on his draft card in World War II. He believed that "he had definitely 'crossed the line' that divided white and black identities".

Mezzrow...was so well known in the jazz community for selling marijuana that Mezz became slang for marijuana. He was also known as the Muggles King, 'muggles' being slang for marijuana, as in Louis Armstrong's 1928 recording "Muggles". Armstrong was one of his biggest customers.”]
Sounds quite contemporary to me?!

I would encourage you to post the earliest possible of the Chronological Classics 1920's-1930s. Qualiy transfers of these recordings is limited and Chronological Classics does a fine job of cleaning them up.

I doubt if there are too many still alive who remember these recordings when they were originally released, but I have enjoyed this era since the 1970s. There is some amazing material from this period. That all jazz lovers should be familiar with. They don't call Swing Vertical Jazz for nothing. These recordings are the bedrock of what followed in Jazz.

@ Vin,

I'd be very interested in any of these early CCs sometime, if possible:

Sidney Bechet (esp. those with the New Orleans Feetwarmers - don't think they have their own separate volume), Duke Ellington's from 1930 on, Johnny Dodds, and James P. Johnson 1921–28.

Now that I've discovered this place, I have to go back and find all of your previous posts of the later CCs. It's a good thing I've the rest of the day. ;=)

Thanks!

Wonder if anybody can give me some advice.
I have just tranferred 1.8TB of music files from a 2 TB External Hard drive to a larger 4 TB Drive. It took abou 8 hours. However only about 50% have been found on WMP. They are all there in the new drive . Will they be located when it says media library updated over time ? When I find one that can't be played I play each individual track from the hard-drive for 14 secs it appears along with the art........ quite a long job for 1TB worth. What makes it harder is that a lot of the music files are not under artists names.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

@ LA MUSICA E VITA
You are right, the auto biography of Mezz Mezrow is a fantastic book, I've red it at the age of 15th (it was in the books of my father). Sadly, at this time jazz was not at all my cup of tee...but now, when I listen to this old jazz I enjoy !

@ Vin
A great thanks for Mezz Mezzrow. This is the first time that I have the chance to listen to him.
Thanks for your chronological classics, I've dl some of them

MaggotHead you're fantastic, you made my day (or rather, night by now); thanks so much for DM Bob (or, as John Peel would call him, Deutsche Mark Bob) plus Watzloves.

@ Aaron Vincent

Why do you think so many people are posting negative observations?

Why do you assume that anyone who comments negatively regarding your behavior is automatically an "old man", who's life will soon be over?

Maybe a little introspection is called for.

Hmmm... I have never taken the initiative to argue in here, never in eight years, nor have I ever (like a bolt from the blue) said anything negative about anyone in here, never. However, I respond angrily and negatively if someone (completely unprovoked) calls me things or comments on me and my shares, and so on. Think about it. That these people (and trolls) I think is irrelevant. Just like everyone else in here (and on the internet in general) I have the right to question and even get angry at people (trolls) in here who can't behave themselves, I also have my right to point out when people knowingly break the forum rules, because I want the forum to remain. I have also the right, to have an opinion about "things", just like you and everyone else. Nothing strange at all. More questions?

My behaviour in here is very politely and nice, except when someone (for no reason) attack me, then I got a bad behaviour (of course). I'm a very positive and nice guy, wich most of the dudes in here know. Some people hate me cause I'm a rat/police when it comes to breaking the rules, that's OK with me. Most of the people who still shares mp3 on bloggs like this are old men, I have no problem with that either. Life is short, esp when you get older, I think it's very tragic when old farts have a bad och negative behaviour at me (and others) on forums like this, do some positive things and share nice words instead, talk about music instead, and so on.

Thanks.

...Continuing with Dutch music and the letter 'Y'...

There aren't so many Dutch artists with the letters 'X, y and Z' and I won't post 3 albums of the same artist. So, you'll only get one album with these last letters of the alphabet.

Ygdrassil sounds Scandinavian, but ist a female folk duo from the lowlands of Holland.
Ygdrassil was founded in 1992 by singers Linde Nijland and Annemarieke Coenders. Their harmonic and clear female voices are the most important trademark of the group. Ygdrassil's self-titled debut album was released in 1995. Here it is:

you sir want to be a nice man but sadly you cant, and to assume "Old Men(Farts)" are out to get you shows your paranoia/ageism sadly. you have anger issues that you need to deal with. so many guys on here can see you for what you really are,you cant hide that. we cant all be wrong with our observations but you do have a habit of repelling people. i think you are a loner with no friends and the web is your comfort zone. good luck to you and i hope one day you find some peace as you are a tortured soul..this is not an attack but an observation on your behaviour.
thank you ryp for a superb blog and all you do.

@Ritchie and others,
I will not post comments that attack or mob Aaron Vincent in the future!

@Ritchie

I can only smile at your posts/attacks on me, I don't recognize myself at all in any of the person you describe, I unfortunately guess you are describing yourself? Take care "mate".

bluesjumper33 - I can't help with your problem but may I suggest you get another external harddrive to back up what's on your existing HD. That drive will fail one day and you'll lose all your music. Keep 2 copies (at least) of anything that's important to you.

@ Richie AV might be a Curmudgeon ...but you're a Jerk!. Get a life & quit with the negativity. Act like an Arse & you get responded to like an Arse. Beggars have no rights to bitch at Givers & I've never seen you do any giving here, just bitchin' so go die in ditch ;)
