I grew up with so much of this stuff. Slot car racing too. The band Spirit did a slot car album. We built models too and Revell company put out slot car compilations. I'm loving this series. Gary Usher absolutely rools. Billy Mumy, Will from Lost in Space has a group that kills at Rustys Surf Ranch on the Santa Monica pier regularly. You'd love that place! Thanks.

I think I’d like Rusty’s Surf Ranch too!
That wave of slot car racing washed over the Ruhr area back in the 70s, too! There were two tracks here in Essen that I used to frequent. I owned a Revell chassis with a Ford GT40 body. With the help of my physics teacher, I rewound the 12-volt motor to 6 volts, giving me the fastest slot car on the track—though it did flip over a few times at the start. That is, until the even faster Carrera models arrived. Fond memories...
...and here’s the soundtrack to go with it:

I used to go to a place and rent time on extensive slot car tracks with my friends. Such fun!

Sweet! Great stuff. Remember the friction between the 1/24 and 1/32 schools of racing, not to mention HO scale? Your physics teacher rocks! I had a couple of the sidewinder engines with the cheater slicks. Life was so different back when there was interest in providing youth with something to do and a place to do it. We had several cultures that neatly dovetail into a vast youth movement.

I don’t recall any friction between the different factions. I had a 1:24 scale model with a transparent Ford GT40 body that I had painted from the inside in the original colors—white with blue racing stripes. A pro tip was to treat the "cheater slicks" with a drop of sewing machine oil for better grip. That was later banned because it messed up the track!
