"THE BEST OF RED TOP RECORDS" Vol. 2

Twenty-nine more tracks from Philadelphia's Red Top Records, a local label which helped cover the doo-wop and R&B scene from the late 50's to the early 60's. None of these selections made any noise nationally and were strictly local successes; outtakes, unreleased tracks, and Red Top productions leased to other companies flesh out the track total. The Blue Notes' (an early edition of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes) biggest single prior to Philadelphia International ("My Hero") is on board, as well as super rarities by Joe Tex and the outrageous Screamin' Jay Hawkins. The Four Naturals' pop songs are the only deviants from the doo wop/R&B stew.by Andrew Hamilton, Allmusic

Very nice set of rarities between these two volumes. The vocal group harmony songs are much to my liking. Thanks!!
