Robert Ashley Day #8
I can almost hear the sigh of relief, as we reach the end of my mammoth Robert Ashley posts, though not saying I'm scraping the barrel, it's a real mixed bag.
Having not listened to many of the operas for quite a while, when asked the question which was my favourite, I had totally forgotten how much I loved 'Celestial Excursions'.. So many thanks to Pinverarity for his original request .
Firstly, Peter Greenaway's 1983 documentary 'Four American Composers : Robert Ashley' shown on Channel 4's, unbelievably 43 years ago. A 2008 Roulette TV performance and interview with “Blue” Gene Tyranny.
And we end with a real treat, a performance featuring the man himself live @ La MaMa in 2009.

"Miles from India: A Celebration of the Music of Miles Davis is a compilation album by various artists released in April 2008 through Times Square Records. Produced by Bob Belden, the album features songs associated with iconic trumpeter Miles Davis but performed in new arrangements by American jazz musicians and performers from India."

I thought this set might be interesting but I had no idea how great it is. I like to think Mile's would dig it.

Miles for Otis - a homemade compilation
I put this together for my kid, Otis. Something for him to listen to at work. I figured he'd like the vibe and I was right.
1. Stella By Starlight - from Live at The Plugged Nickel - CD 5. I think there's three versions of this on that album and this is by far my fave.
2. My Man's Gone Now - from We Want Miles Live
3. He Loved Him Madly - from On The Corner
4. Fast Track - From We Want Miles Live. Otis is a guitarist and I knew he'd like Mike Stern's solos here.
5-8 are the four tracks from Bill Laswell's Panthalassa: The Music of Miles Davis 1969–1974

h.krinkle, due to the rules that apply here, I have deleted your post. Please read the text below the video on the main page: (NO ALBUMS OR BOOKS RELEASED IN 2024 AND AFTER, AND A DAILY LIMIT OF 3 ALBUMS OR BOOKS Thanks!
You are welcome to repeatedly post the other album, which is from 2019, and please adhere to our rules in the future, which are intended to ensure the continued existence of TwilightZone!
I deleted a comment from an observant visitor so that he couldn't be labeled a snitch here. We should all be grateful that there are observant visitors here who are also interested in the continued existence of the TZ!
Much thanks! I was checking out this release a couple days ago, so very timely for you to share it.
First heard the PCO on a EG Editions comp (also exposed me to Killing Joke!) decades ago. Do check out the Penguin Cafe as well, lead by Simon's son, Arthur. https://penguincafe.bandcamp.com
Thanks for all the PCO.
