…and now for something completely different! 1938 - 2023

These fucking politicians, warlords and religious... They don't know that they are as superfluous as telephone disinfectors and hairdressers! - RYP

We have a first entry each day that is a picture or a video, and only in that entry you can place your music links and requests (NO ALBUMS RELEASED IN 2021 AND AFTER, AND A DAILY LIMIT OF 3 ALBUMS AND NO REQUESTS FOR FLAC OR OTHER LOSSLESS, IF YOU WANT FLAC, BUY THE ALBUM)! Here you can say what you like, unless it's offensive, racist or discriminatory! Please keep your language polite and respectful. All other official posts will only allow comments related to the official posts and such. That way it will keep things much more organized and tidy. Enjoy! RYP and Gyro1966

Sœur Sourire (The Singing Nun)

Philips B.14081 (France 1963)

Philips P.14055 (The Netherlands 1963)

Sœur Sourire (meaning Sister Smile) is the artist name of Jeanne-Paule Marie “Jeanine” Deckers. She was a French-speaking catholic nun from Brussels, Belgium.

In December 1963, out of nowhere, she took the charts by storm with her song “Dominique”. She went to the top of the US charts with that song as “The Singing Nun”.

She later abandoned her veil, then tried to pursue her career as Luc Dominique in 1967, but never reached success again. She went to live with her female companion and they both committed joint suicide in 1985.

This is her first 10”/25 cm LP.

She also released Dutch/Flemish versions of these 8 songs on an LP as « Zuster Glimlach », to catch the audiences from the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium and from The Netherlands. That second LP had a different running order.

Both LPs are offered here.

In French:

1. Soeur Sourire - Alleluia (2:51)
2. Soeur Sourire - Fleur De Cactus (1:49)
3. Soeur Sourire - Résurrection (3:47)
4. Soeur Sourire - Mets Ton Joli Jupon (1:26)
5. Soeur Sourire - Dominique (2:55)
6. Soeur Sourire - Plume De Radis (1:58)
7. Soeur Sourire - Entre Les Etoiles (3:14)
8. Soeur Sourire - Tous Les Chemins (2:39)

In Dutch/Flemish:

1. Zuster Glimlach - Hallelujia (Alleluia) (2:51)
2. Zuster Glimlach - Je Mooiste Jukje Aan (Mets Ton Joli Jupon) (1:28)
3. Zuster Glimlach - Cactusbloem (Fleur De Cactus) (1:56)
4. Zuster Glimlach - Opstanding (Résurrection) (3:56)
5. Zuster Glimlach - Tussen Al Die Sterren (Entre Les Etoiles) (3:17)
6. Zuster Glimlach - Dominiek (Dominique) (3:11)
7. Zuster Glimlach - Spruitje Radijs (Plume De Radis) (1:59)
8. Zuster Glimlach - Alle Wegen (Tous Les Chemins) (2:43)

Artwork Included (both LPs fronts, backs, labels)

Glad to see people are enjoying the Martin Mull. I have three more today, plus Big Gray has kindly provided me with Mull's last studio album of the 70s along with three bonus cuts from Mull's greatest hits, "Mulling It Over," which don't appear on the others. That will be tomorrow (along with a couple of other non-Mull surprises).

"Ivy Green" is onsidered to be one of the first Dutch punk bands. Founded in Hazerswoude-Dorp in 1975. Throughout the eighties the group's sound evolved from punk to more straightforward rock with soul influences (even employing brass). They disbanded in 1990. (Discogs)

Walpurgis — Queen Of Saba 1972 (Germany, Krautrock/Psychedelic/Progressive Rock)
https://wdfiles.ru/760ac3a

["Walpurgis was founded in the beginning of the 70’s by the Polish and German musicians. During May and June 1972 Walpurgis recorded their first and only record «Queen Of Saba» for the famous German OHR label, in the Dierks Studio in Stommeln, with Dieter Dierks engineering and Frank Öser producing. Jurgen Dollase from the band Wallenstein played keyboards. The band plays a Westcoast and Psychedelic influenced Krautrock. Their music is based on long improvisations mainly on guitar with organ and piano work by Dollase. Walpurgis didn’t break through and never gained a second opportunity, due to the demise of OHR reords in 1973".]
