The Byrds – Alternate Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde Album
Vintage Masters VMCDR-531 (Japan? 2020)
“Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde” alternate mixes
Roger McGuinn (guitar, vocals)
Clarence White (guitar, mandolin, vocals)
Gene Parsons (drums, harmonica, vocals)
John York (bass, vocals)
An alternate album based on an acetate LP of the late 1969 Byrds album, with tracks before later work was done on them. An image of the acetate appears on the front cover of this CDR.
“The Byrds – Unreleased Alternate “Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde” LP Acetate
An ultra rare acetate containing a completely alternate version of The Byrds 1969 album Dr. Byrds & Mr Hyde, taken exclusively from the initial recording sessions at Columbia Studios in Nashville (and dated October 16, 1968, before the band began further sessions in Nashville on October 28, 1968).
From Wiki:
An acetate version of Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde, dated October 16, 1968 and containing a seven-track programme for the album is known to exist. At this point the album consisted of the songs “Old Blue”, “King Apathy III”, “Drug Store Truck Drivin’ Man” and “This Wheel’s on Fire” on side one, with “Your Gentle Way of Loving Me”, “Nashville West” and “Bad Night at the Whiskey” on side two.
In 1997, Columbia issued a remixed and reissued version of the album with bonus tracks, but this is a 1968 acetate cut before The Byrds re-entered the studio in late October 1968 to remix/overdub/record and in the case of This Wheel’s On Fire, re-record.
1. This Wheel's On Fire (5:02)
2. Old Blue (3:33)
3. Your Gentle Way Of Loving Me (2:42)
4. Child Of The Universe (3:26)
5. Nashville West (2:51)

8. Candy (3:45)
9. Bad Night At The Whiskey (3:27)

Nik was part of the early line up of Hawkwind, as vocalist, sax and flute player, but collaborated with many acts before his death in 2022. Sources vary depending on where I got them, so do bitrates. These are going to come out randomly and occasionally….

Hurricane Smith – Hurricane Smith

Vinyl, LP, Album, US, 1972

Hurricane Smith worked as Sound Engineer for the Beatles and early Pink Floyd. Later he produced this solo work, which sounds nothing like the Beatles or Pink Floyd. His solo work can be described as crooning, sweet love songs, backed by an orchestra, with sax. He had several hits in England. The unforgettable "Oh, Babe, What would you say?" also charted in the US.

Good day everyone. I am looking for anything (everything) by True West, especially Hollywood Holiday. Thanks in advance

1953 Teddy Charles & Shorty Rogers - Collaboration West
"Collaboration West is an album by jazz vibraphonist and pianist Teddy Charles recorded in 1953 for the Prestige label.[1][2] Four tracks from an earlier session were added to the 1993 CD release.
The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow states: "Although there are some swinging sections, much of the music is quite complex with difficult arrangements and some polytonality... The music is thought-provoking if a bit cold and clinical, easier to respect than to love".

The 12-track album, which features a mix of classic blues and jazz, showcases Kitt's vocal versatility backed by Rogers' West Coast jazz arranging style."

Mr Kleeg —
Thought you might enjoy reading what triggered my initial request for Rob't Ashley.
I'm reading composer John Adams' autobiography (HALLELUJAH JUNCTION) and while describing his early days at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, he is at pains to note how much he admired Ashley, his contemporary across the SF Bay at Mills College in Oakland.
"In the mid-1970s I would drive across the Bay Bridge to Mills for Saturday afternoon concerts by Robert Ashley and his students. Ashley, a charismatic soft-spoken Midwesterner with an infallible sense of understatement and a perfect ear for American speech, had become a guru for young aspiring experimental composers, performance artists, and filmmakers. […]
"I liked Ashley's compositions, especially the long interior monologue PERFECT LIVES, which he spoke in his soothing, bemused Midwestern voice…Asley had found the tonality of middle-American speech, part melancholy and part whimsy, that could not be replicated either in written prose or in outright song. […] his art fell into the cracks between poetry and song and has yet to gain the appreciation it deserves."
There's more, but you can see why I thought, "damn, I've got to hear this"!
Some useless trivia - some years ago, I wrote to the people who compile the Guinness British Hit Singles books, (they ask to be advised of errors etc) in an effort to point out that they had Hurricane Smith listed in the books under "H", instead of under "S", as I knew his real name was Norman Smith. The reply came back informing me that Hurricane's family had requested that he be filed under "H", and that was the way it was going to remain. C'est la vie.
Faint heart ne'er won fair zip drive! COURAGE
You're very welcome, cheers
Try this link:
https://www.ibiblio.org/jimmy/folkden-wp/?p=9978
Same here. Not reachable.
a 3cd compilation are 3 items, 3 singles are 3 items, its a rule we all should be able to work with, and when one visits frequently 3 singles a day make 21 in a week.
When you want to fiddle the rules a bit, a home-made compilation of an hour can contain more than 3 singles. When you know how to limit yourself there is a great freedom of expression here.
Cheers
It was not reachable for me until I found the link posted above.
Oops! "404, File Not Found!". Thank you.
@Douglas, thank you so much for the Buckner & Langford!!
H.H.
Hi Searnav... thank-you for the acetate. Nice!!
@Richie Nixan
hootin says
thanks for respone mr nixon
i do understand the 3 cd posting rule, but whay i wanted to ask was about making a compilation cd with various cuts i have.
i thought when the 3 cd rules were published several years ago there was a clarification of the number of tracks allowed per home made cd compilation. for instance if 24 tracks = i cd. then 3 cds would be 75 tracks.
sound familiar? i'm not sure of the number 24.
hootin
Thanks sambgodot for the John Hartford, you have made my day!!!
So much good music from Davis, CA, and environs, 1985-95.
