Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
Song by Hannes Wader ‧ 1972
Google translation:
Here today, gone tomorrow—hardly arrived, and I must be off
I’ve never complained about it
I chose this life myself, never counted the years
Never asked about yesterday or tomorrow
Sometimes I have troubled dreams, and I think it might be
Time to stay, to do something entirely different
So year after year goes by, and it’s long been clear to me
That nothing stays, that nothing stays as it once was
That I’m barely missed, forgotten after just a few days
By the time I’m already somewhere else
It doesn’t bother or concern me—though perhaps my face
Might still linger in someone’s memory
Sometimes I have troubled dreams, and I think it might be
Time to stay, to do something entirely different
So year after year goes by, and it’s long been clear to me
That nothing stays, that nothing stays as it once was
If someone asks why I am the way I am, I remain silent
Because the answer is hard for me to find
For what is new grows old, and what held true yesterday
May no longer be valid today or tomorrow
Sometimes I have troubled dreams, and I think it might be
Time to stay, to do something entirely different
So year after year goes by, and it’s long been clear to me
That nothing stays, that nothing stays as it once was

Best, TC
