Feargal Sharkey "Songs from the Mardi Gras" 1991

Charming early 90s sophisti-pop album - not overproduced, with robust drum/bass section (by session blokes: Eddie Bayers/Michael Rhodes). Fav song: dream-pop-influenced "To Miss Someone" - pay heed to this song if you are searching for some 90s underrated gems! - Demonia Shadowwalker
The British music press can be unforgiving at times, and no more so than in the case of Sharkey, ex-lead singer of The Undertones. Granted his second solo album was a disaster, but any attempt for him to enter the mainstream was mercilessly shot down. This is not a perfect album by any means, with several tracks sounding dated and overproduced. Yet, there can be no denying Sharkey had the voice to grace any soul or blues inspired track, and when his songwriting avoided incorporating the latest commercial sounds, he would strike the right notes. Standout tracks here are lead single, ‘I’ve Got News For You’, ‘Women and I’, and the wonderful ‘Miss You Fever’. Sharkey would abandon his solo career with the negative criticism this third album received, and one wonders whether that was too precipitate a decision. - The Final Note SJC
